I Just Went To Buy a 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid But None Are Available and There’s Only One In Production, Now I’m Worried About the Tariffs

If you are considering a 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, expect to wait to get one. How long is the wait, and how will the tariffs affect prices? One buyer says the wait is about a month, but few are being built. Here is what RAV4 Hybrid buyers need to know.

How long is the wait to get a 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?

A Toyota RAV4 Hybrid buyer found out they must wait at least 30 days to get one. They are in short supply, which means the price may go up. They are also concerned about tariffs. Here is what RAV4 Hybrid customers need to know.

One user, Whitney, on the Toyota RAV4 Owners Facebook page says they can't find a 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid; few are even in production.

Whitney says, "I plan to buy a 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE this month, but none are in stock. The Toyota dealer told me only one is currently in production, with an estimated May 29, 2025, availability. I'm now worried how the tariffs will apply to the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid."

Toyota RAV4 Hybrids Are In Short Supply

A report from Reuters says soaring demand for Toyota's RAV4 Hybrid and its other gasoline-electric hybrids has left suppliers struggling to keep pace, leading to parts shortages and months-long waits for car buyers.

The report says, "Stocks of hybrids are low at Toyota dealers across major markets, including U.S. dealers. The surge in demand is challenging for Toyota, the dominant hybrid player. But it also vindicates the Japanese automaker's bet on the technology against predictions by some rivals that battery-only electric vehicles would wipe out hybrid demand."

How Long Is the Wait for Toyota's Hybrids?

At one U.S. West Coast dealership, an unidentified Toyota spokesperson said that Prius hybrids were sold out in mid-February, and just a handful of Camry hybrids were available.

What does Toyota say?

The Reuter report says that Toyota said in a statement that demand for hybrids had increased "significantly in the past year in all regions," it was doing its best to boost production in response. The automaker said it had improved vehicle delivery lead times over the past year.

"Currently, the production capacity for hybrid parts and components from our suppliers and our in-house parts manufacturing is in line with our annual production plans and vehicle assembly capacity," it said.

A report from Inside EVs says, "The U.S. isn't free from the pain, especially on the West Coast where buyers are finding Toyota dealer's lots with no hybrids in sight. Toyota's hybrid-frenzy is nothing new. Folks have been complaining about how difficult it has been to get a Toyota hybrid for months."

How Will the Tariffs Affect RAV4 Hybrid Pricing?

The current tariffs may lead to an increase in the price of the 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Buyers should be prepared for potential price hikes due to these trade policies.

RAV4 Owners Sound Off

An All-Star contributor, Michael Butkus, says, "My local Toyota already put up a banner warning that prices may increase after April 2nd on parts and cars. It did not say if new stock would be affected or if they would increase prices on cars in stock. This is nuts!"

Laura O'Hearn - "The 2025 RAV4 Hybrid is the car I'm getting, around the same time I'm getting it. I went into the dealership to order it, put $500 down, and the price was locked in. I specifically went over this with the finance manager. They're also built in Canada."

"Also, if the interest rate goes down, I get the lower rate (and I am protected if it goes up). That's for a car that was allotted to the dealership already, not a custom order, and I'm based in Canada.)"

Mike Aplet - "The RAV4 Hybrid most certainly will be affected by the Trump tariffs. Even if it's assembled in a U.S. factory, It is chocked full of components manufactured elsewhere. All of those parts are subject to these tariffs. That applies even to the U.S. brands such as GM and Ford cars."

Should You Wait For the 2026 RAV4 Hybrid?

Top contributor Adam Kirk suggests, "Why not hold out for the 2026 RAV4? The new update is set to begin production in October, promising a fresh start."

Next-Gen RAV4 Hybrid Details

Car and Driver reports that the 2026 Toyota RAV4 is expected to debut in the fall of 2025 and be available for purchase by the end of the year as a 2026 model. It's likely to be hybrid-only, with a starting price of around $30,000. The new model will feature a more aggressive, sharper design with a hammerhead front end and a honeycomb grille.

Key Features and Changes:

  • Design: The new RAV4 will have a more upright and blocky design, with a wider stance, sharper headlights, and a new grille.
  • Powertrain: The 2026 RAV4 will likely be offered exclusively as a hybrid, using the Camry's 2.5-liter engine and a trio of electric motors.
  • Technology: Expect an expansive infotainment display with improved graphics and support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa.
  • Pricing: The starting price is anticipated to be around $30,000, says Car and Driver.
  • Safety: The RAV4's safety suite will likely be enhanced by adding a front-center airbag and driver attention monitoring.

Conclusion:

The 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is in high demand and short supply. Toyota is likely slowing production of the 2025 RAV4 to make way for the all-new next-generation 2026 RAV4 Hybrid. So, it will be even harder to find one this summer.

Toyota RAV4 Hybrid customers who can wait until this fall will see the new upgrades. Put your order in as soon as it opens up, and you'll have one by the end of the year.
