The Chrysler Group has just announced a new limited edition package for the 2016 Ram 1500 with an unusual name and an eye-catching color – with the Yellow Rose of Texas Edition Ram arriving at dealerships around the Lone Star State beginning in April.

The Ram Power Wagon has always been the most capable truck in the heavy duty segment, but at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, this rugged off-roader gets a facelift that includes new graphics, a new grille, new wheels and the same go-anywhere capabilities.

The Ram Rebel has been announced as Four Wheeler Magazine’s Truck of the Year, beating out the Chevy Colorado Z71 Diesel, the Nissan Titan XD PRO-4X Diesel and the Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road in one of the most grueling truck competitions in the industry.

Ward’s has announced their 10 Best Engines for 2016 and for the third straight year, the 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel engine from the Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee is honored – making it the longest tenured engine on the list and the only diesel engine on the list for the second straight year.

The new Ram 1500 Rebel is the biggest and baddest factory half ton Dodge or Ram truck of the modern era, but at the 2015 SEMA Show, the Mopar crew has taken this rough and rugged factory package to an even more extreme level – with a fairly brief modification list.

During the last serious cold snap of the 2015 Detroit winter, I had a chance to spend a few days working out the 2015 Ram 2500 Tradesman with the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel – a budget friendly work horse with best in class capabilities that has everything that you need and only a little of what you don’t need (but will enjoy).

The Chrysler Group has been very quiet about what they plan to debut at the 2015 NAIAS in Detroit, but we can expect big announcements from the Alfa Romeo and Ram Truck brands while the Hellcat powered Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger will help draw big crowds of people looking to feast their eyes on the most powerful American production cars ever.

When you think of a ¾ ton heavy duty pickup, you don’t often think of that truck being fun to drive, but the 2014 Ram 2500 Power Wagon combines the workhorse capabilities that you would expect with a level of fun-to-drive factor that is unheard of in this segment – all in a great looking package.
