Volkswagen has just unveiled its new affordable electric vehicle, the ID.2all, during an investor event in Germany. With a starting price of 25,000 euros ($26,600) and an estimated range of 450 kilometers (279 miles), the ID.2all is aimed at being an affordable, mass-market electric vehicle for the people.

This new vehicle from Volkswagen comes as a response to the disappointment felt by Tesla investors after the recent Tesla's Investor Day, where it was hoped that a new affordable Tesla model would be revealed, but that hope was buried. VW's ID.2all concept is a Golf-looking electric hatchback that the company says will be a true EV for the masses.

During the event, Volkswagen outlined a strategy that includes an investment of 180 billion euros ($193 billion) over five years in areas such as battery production and raw materials, with the aim of reducing the cost of EV production and increasing market share to overtake Tesla and others.

The ID.2all is just a concept for now, but Volkswagen expects to put it into production starting in 2025, making it one of 10 plug-in models set to debut by 2026. With its affordable price and potential, the ID.2all could be a game-changer in the electric vehicle market, as Volkswagen aims to make EVs more accessible to the general public.

Overall, Volkswagen's unveiling of the ID.2all concept is an exciting development for the electric vehicle market, as it shows that affordable, mass-market EVs are becoming more of a reality. With Tesla's affordable EV model delayed, VW could be poised to take the lead in this market segment. It will be interesting to see how the ID.2all and other upcoming plug-in models from Volkswagen will fare against competitors like Tesla.
