The all-new 2019 Ascent 3-Row Crossover was revealed tonight at the media event at the LA Auto Show. Here’s details and video.

The all-new 2019 Ascent 3-Row Crossover is Subaru’s new flagship vehicle, and was uncovered tonight in Los Angeles. Tom Doll, CEO, Subaru of America, introduced the new Ascent with the help of the Barkley dog family as they piled out as the new 3-Row crossover was driven on stage.

Subaru will build the Ascent on its new Global Platform and it will be powered by a new 2.4-liter twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine producing 260hp and 277 lb. ft of torque. The Ascent 2.4-liter twin turbo four cylinder is their new-generation boxer engine developed specifically for this vehicle and likely won’t power any of their other models.

Other features will include standard EyeSight driver assist technology, standard X-Mode and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, and the Ascent comes with 5000 lb. towing capacity. It will come with 72.6 cubic feet of cargo carrying ability, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, 8 available USB ports, heated and ventilated front seats, rear-seat climate control and 2nd and 3rd row sunshades.

The new 2019 Subaru Ascent will come in four trim levels for North American families. Standard model; Premium models with power rear gate, Keyless Access W/ Push button start, Automatic Dimming mirror, Reverse Braking, 20-inch wheels, Panorama Moonroof and Navigation with 8-inch touch screen. The Limited models will upgrade with a Harmon/Kardon premium audio system plus Panorama Moonroof and Navigation with touch screen. Subaru will also offer the Ascent in a top-of -the-line Touring trim with upgraded interior featuring “Saddle Brown" leather.

Ascent will compare favorably in size to Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, and even the Chevy Tahoe. The new Ascent will be built at the Subaru Indiana Automotive (SIA) plant in Lafayette, Indiana alongside, Outback, Legacy and Impreza models.

Subaru will release limited edition models to commemorate its 50th anniversary next year. Each vehicle in the 2019 Subaru line-up, including the Ascent, will offer a 50th anniversary edition. The editions will feature a new, common color which will be based on a high-level trim and will come with special badging. The all-new 2019 Subaru Ascent will start in the low $30,000 price range and will be on sale in early summer 2018.

Looks like a great vehicle! Some observations: Is it available with power folding side mirrors to make it easier to go thru single car garage door openings? Are Memory seat settings available? Cargo space behind 1st, 2nd, & 3rd seat? Is a 2” receiver hitch available as an option?

It doesn't look Ascent gets power folding mirrors or memory seats Bob. Subaru doesn't say how much cargo except it has 72.6 cu ft total cargo space. Not sure about the 2" receiver hitch until they release more details closer to launch. Thanks for reading!

Subaru had best concentrate on reliability, quality defects, and cost of ownership including workmanship at dealers before they lose their customers because of a string of problems with 2013 - 2017 Outbacks. I have. 2013 Outback that has had a factory recall for excess engine oil consumption. A short block replacement was performed at factory expense. However a series of induced failures persist including leaky seals and the like. Subaru continually argues their .warranty is limited, in spite of this I got a recall letter, they tested my Outback @nd determined a replacem3nt was needed. These factory caused interventions caused a series of induced failures. Then they wanted to say warranty had run outcounterdicting thenselves. Which way is it. The right hand doesn’t know what th3 left hand is doing. What a hassle and nightmare! I also have a 2010 Outback and it is a much better car with high reliability and no problems. The reliability difference is profound. The 2013 is our sixth Subaru in our family since 2001. As a result you can bet we are are now evaluating other brands.

A deal breaker for me. Subaru Forester touring & Subaru Outback Ltd & Touring offer memory seats standard. How did Subaru miss this on the Ascent Touring or Ltd.? Regarding power folding mirrors: available on Kia Sportage & Sorento, Lexus SUV, BMW, & Mercedes. Would be a nice feature for tight garage door openings, not to mention driving on narrow back roads. Regarding cargo space: Only 72 CF behind 1st seating row? Is this really correct? Outback has 73CF, Sorento has 73CF, Honda Pilot has 83CF, Highlander has 82CF, & VW Atlas has 96CF. Thanks...

The concept is great and the vehicle is needed to round out their line-up and retain customers that grow out of the Outback. However, they always seem to miss the little things. 1) Ambient lighting, w/19 cup holders will you be able to actually see them at night? Is the glove box illuminated? 2) Folding mirrors - pretty much a standard now, it should have been a no-brainer on the two higher trim levels; 3) Panoramic roof doesn't appear to be tinted - which literally creates a greenhouse effect. I like my Forester XT but I bake in that car when I want to open the panel and expose the light in the summer. Lastly, I didn't hear anything about driving select modes. I like the Ascent but the exterior styling cues could have been a little bolder and there are still minor upgrades with the interior that should have been addressed. They are playing in a market that pays attention to those details and so should they. I expect the Ascent to sell like hotcakes nonetheless and I do applaud Subaru for getting it right this time (versus the Tribeca debacle).
