MKBHD has released his Cybertruck 2nd impressions video & he’s disappointed with Tesla – “They promised a 500-mile range and delivered 340 miles; They promised $69,000, the tri-motor is $100,000; 14,000 lbs towing, now it’s 11,000 lbs.”
Beginning with the November 30 event, Tesla has Finally Started Delivering the First 1000 Foundation Series Cybertrucks to customers with laser-itched 3-headed Cyberbeast Insignia and more unique details.
This is wonderful however, even more excitingly, now that the Cybertruck is in customers’ hands, we know all the the final specs and comparisons with other trucks.
For example, hours after starting deliveries, a Beast Mode Cybertruck pitted against a Rivian R1T and a Hummer EV has been able to break the speed record for all pickup trucks.
MKBHD on his main channel has also released a 40-minute-long 1st take review of the Cybertrucks. Following the release of that episode, Tesla’s VP of Investor Relations had to come out and defend MKBHD’s Cybertruck review against “he should stay in his lane comments” and production quality criticisms.
Thanks to Tesla’s Head of Vehicle Engineering we also know that the Cybertruck is capable of 350KW V4 supercharging. Using V4 superchargers, the Cybertruck can charge from 15% to 85% in 18 minutes.
During Elon Musk’s interview with Sandy Munro, we’ve also learned that Cybertruck production is not expected to significantly ramp until 2025. Musk said, “Cybertruck will not be material to Tesla’s financials in 2024, it will be such a small percentage of all Tesla vehicles sold next year.”
We’ve also learned that, following an industry-first change to 48-volt low-voltage architecture, Tesla has sent CEOs of all major auto OEMs a how-to guide titled “How to design a 48-volt vehicle.”
Yesterday, Ford CEO Jim Farley revealed that he has indeed received this guide from Tesla prompting Elon Musk to respond.
All the Cybertruck comments and reviews although wonderful, have all been first takes and impressions. However, what do reviewers who have been able to play around with the vehicle think about the Cybertruck once the dust has settled?
To give us an answer to this question, MKBHD has released what we might call his Cybertruck second take in his long-form oriented 2nd channel – Waveform Podcast.
The Waveform podcast, unlike the main Marques Brownlee channel, features conversations, and due to the long-form setup, episodes can go on for more than an hour.
So what does MKBHD think about the Cybertruck now that he has had time to digest his Cybertruck review? From the get-go, MKBHD does not seem impressed.
MKBHD begins his Cybertruck second take stating “All the numbers except 0 to 60 mph are worse than they promised. This is the first time that’s true for a Tesla. I feel like they are always usually able to deliver what they promised, it’s just really late. This time, straight up, all the numbers are worse.”
MKBHD then runs down the numbers saying “They originally promised 500 mile range on the highest end truck. The highest-end truck has 340 miles of range. They originally promised a 14,000lbs towing capacity, it has an 11,000lbs towing capacity. They promised $69,900 for the tri-motor, it is $100,000, and the truck is 5% smaller in dimension than the original truck”
The YouTuber’s 2nd impression of the truck appears to be that Tesla has not been able to keep the Cybertruck’s promised specs.
Throughout the episode, MKBHD also goes on to point out some of the features he also liked about the Cybertruck including the over-delivered 2.6 seconds 0 to 60 mph time and the truck's steer-by-wire variable gain steering system and 4-wheel steering.
If you listen to the entire podcast, MKBHD’s Cybertruck overall take seems balanced, however, similar to a lot of people, the YouTuber also appears to be disappointed with some of the Cybertruck’s final specs.
Currently, this is all the information we’ve regarding Cybertruck reactions from reviewers however, we’ll be sure to keep you posted once we learn further information as the truck makes it out to the hands of more individuals.
Until then, make sure to visit our site torquenews.com/Tesla regularly for the latest updates.
So what do you think? Surprised to see MKBHD’s disappointed Cybertruck take? Do you think Tesla has kept the promise of the original Cybertruck prototype? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
