The new Tesla Model 3 Highland is in the U.S. and North America now, with a 341 miles EPA range. But, why is the Tesla Model 3 performance missing?

Model 3 Highland - Now In the U.S.

The new Model 3 Highland is in the U.S. now, and it's the Long Range Model 3, going from 333 miles of range to 341 miles of range - according to EPA range standards. No word is out if this is using the new, reduced range EPA standards or not.

According to Tesla, North America:

Go up to 341 mi (EPA est) on a single charge with updated exterior styling optimized for max aerodynamics.

Improved ride comfort

More refined & relaxed ride quality, thanks to a combination of stiffer body & updated suspension tuning.

Two new colors

Ultra Red & Stealth Grey. Designed to change with viewing angle & lighting.

Redesigned interior

More sophisticated materials, ventilated seats & customizable ambient lighting.

Rear touchscreen for passengers in the back to control climate & enjoy entertainment.

Center touchscreen now has smaller bezels, giving you more useable screen space.

Screen is brighter, higher contrast & more responsive. More comfortable rear seats.

Better sound system

Up to 17 speakers, dual subwoofers & dual amplifiers. Obviously goes to 11.

Super quiet cabin 360º acoustic glass ensures silence inside the cabin no matter what’s happening around you.

Also, significantly less road & wind noise.

It's great to see Tesla acting so fast on this - since the Model Y vehicles were less expensive when you factor in the tax credit than the Model 3 Long Range and Model 3 RWD.

There is something missing from this, however, and it is updates to the Model 3 RWD and the Model 3 Performance.

Model 3 Performance Missing

On Tesla's website, you can only get a Model 3 RWD for $38,990 and a Model 3 Long Range for $45,990. The Model 3 Performance is completely missing as an option. And, it's unknown if these upgrades apply to the Model 3 RWD as well.

The reason for this may be that the Model 3 Performance is cheaper than the Long Range when you factor in the $7,500 U.S. tax credit, making it a "conflict of interest" for Tesla to have that happen.

Tesla will have to resolve the tax credit before bringing back the Model 3 Performance, it looks like.

It also remains to be seen if the 341 miles of range will be using the new standards. If it is using the new standards, then this range will likely be the longest of any Model 3 Long Range Tesla has ever built, even longer than the prior 358 miles of range version - because the new standards are stricter.

Tesla has also released a video on their main X account, showing that the new Model 3 is now available in North America.

The new features are great - the extra range, build, sound, and console in the back seats - everything is a big upgrade from the existing Model 3 options and will hopefully capture more orders.

The price of the Model 3 Long Range is about what the Model 3 RWD was at its highest point, making it an attractive option.

No word on what the battery of the Model 3 Long Range is, but on Tesla's website, there is no mention of it getting the tax credit - or the Model 3 RWD, so my guess is that it is using batteries outside the U.S., like Giga Shanghai is.
