Are you the type that loves to venture off the beaten path, but still prefers the finer things in life? How does a road trip through Germany in a Porsche Taycan sound?
If you’re in search of a unique camping experience and are willing to travel to Stuttgart, Porsche may have just the ticket for you. For €2,490 (US $2,620) per person, performance EV enthusiasts can take part in an exclusive camping experience behind the wheel of a 670 horsepower Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo.
For the price of admission, adventurous Porsche enthusiasts receive transportation to and from Stuttgart’s city center or airport, all the meals and outdoor equipment required to enjoy the trip, and most importantly, the keys to a Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo that’s all yours for 3 days and 2 nights.
The Porsche Experience tours are operated by Sporttotal Event GmbH, and the website provides details of the adventures that come in two flavors: Black Forest foray, scheduled for May 17th to 19th, as well as September 6th through 8th, and Rhine-Hesse ramble, which is slated to run May 31st to June 2nd.
Since this is a camping trip, each night you and your co-pilot, along with up to 6 other participants, will fall asleep under the starry skies in the roof-mounted tent atop the Taycan.
Enjoy a Black Forest foray in Porsche style
With the Black Forest foray tours, highlights (aside from the driving pleasure of piloting a Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo through the winding roads of the Black Forest) include a chance to get a bird’s eye view of the Black Forest at the Hirschgrund Zipline Area, as well as a sunrise hike up the Feldberg.
Other activities on the agenda include hiking, an e-mountain bike ride, and a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) tour. Campers can rest assured that they’ll find plenty of culinary options to satisfy their palates, including the chance to try their hands at making oven-baked pizza and tarte flambée.
Ramble through the Rhine-Hesse wine region
For those interested in pairing their Porsche Taycan experience with fine wine and cuisine, the Rhine-Hesse ramble offers a guided drive along the German Wine Route paired with exclusive wine tastings, a wine hike with picnic, and a gourmet dinner prepared by Michelin star chef Philipp Stein at the Sekthaus with owner Marie-Luise Raumland.
Not seeing the camping trip of your dreams? The tour operator suggests that they would be happy to hear from you and arrange a personalized itinerary for a Porsche adventure that fits your lifestyle.
Does anyone actually use their Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo for trips off the beaten path?
On the surface, the Taycan Cross Turismo appears to offer some of the appropriate characteristics that those with a taste for adventure look for. The wagon body style increases cargo capacity to 42.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat, offering space for gear and luggage. Ground clearance is also higher by 20mm (0.78 inches) than the Taycan sedan to begin with, and an available Offroad Design Package and gravel mode further increase the ride height advantage to 30mm (1.18 inches).
While trips into the wilderness aren’t necessarily the first thing that comes to mind when one considers Porsche ownership, adding SUVs like the Cayenne and Macan to the roster has allowed the brand's buyers to do just that. EV buyers will have to wait a little while longer for fully-electric versions of the Porsche SUV duo. In the meantime though, we can't help wondering if owners of the Taycan Cross Turismo may be challenging that notion. It goes without saying that access to charging facilities in more remote destinations may be a limiting factor at the moment, but we would love to hear about your experiences if you’ve taken the plunge!
With Porsche focusing on advancing battery technology, we anticipate that range concerns will become less of an issue in the not-too-distant future. This should open the door to more opportunities for those who want to take advantage of the Cross Turismo's functionality.
