Vincentric recently came out with its Best CPO Awards and the Blue Oval Score impressive victories.
In the automotive world, there are all sorts of awards. For example, one -publication may name a vehicle as part of its 10-Best (Car and Driver), while another publication may proclaim specific models to be the “Best of the Year (Motor Trend). As far as we know at Torque News, there are few, if any, sites that name the best-used cars of the year.
Should Ford Fear Consumer Reports
To put it another way, used cars are divided into two categories. Standard used cars are sold by any dealership. And the second category is backed by the automaker and factory. These vehicles are known by the pejorative name CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) and carry the factory’s blessing.
Ford CPO Program Explained
Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles are those quality used vehicles that are taken back in by dealerships, refurbished to a great degree, and carry specialized warranties that make them better deals for buyers. It is nice to know that when you go to your Ford dealer, the cars on the used car lot are CPO specials.
Is the Ford Bronco Sport the Best Winter SUV?
Recently, Vincentric took its annual look at the Blue Oval’s used offerings. The company used its metrics to find the “2024 Best CPO Value In America.” According to the Ford Authority (FA), a leading independent source of news and information about the automaker, ”Vincentric conducted a statistical analysis to discover which vehicle had lower than expected ownership costs given their market segment and price.”
To reach its findings, Vincentric looked at eight cost metrics:
- Depreciation
- Fees and taxes
- Financing
- Insurance
- Maintenance
- Opportunity cost
- Repairs
To ensure all things were equal, the “costs were measured while taking into account the CPO warranty offered by each manufacturer and applying mileage requirements necessary to be authorized as an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) CPO vehicle.
Vincentric Metrics Explained
Vincentric looked at over 18,000 vehicle configurations to make its determination. “Each CPO vehicle was evaluated in all 50 states plus Washington, DC, assuming that each would be driven 15,000 miles annually over five years,” said FA.
The Vincentric awards have been good for the Blue Oval. Many of the models that Ford sells have taken home awards.
The list includes:
- The Ford Expedition, winner in the large SUV category
- The Lincoln Navigator, “which ranked first in the Large Luxury SUV category.
- The Ford Transit Connect, with wins in the Small Cargo Van and Small Commercial Van categories
- The Ford E-Transit, winner of the Large Cargo Van award
- The “entire Ford van lineup, which won the honor of being the best overall van family
- The Ford F-150 Lightning, winner in the full-sized half-ton pickup segment
- The Ford Maverick, winner of the small/mid-size pickup segment
Thanks to the contributions of the F-150 Lightning and the Maverick, Ford received a “special award itself.” The two pickups enabled Ford to win the Best 2024 truck brand award.
Ford was the only automaker to ”secure a win in more than one segment.”
To determine the CPO winners, Vincentric “conducted a statistical analysis to discover which vehicles had lower than 3sxpected costs given their market segment and price,” said FA.
Ford Halves Its F-150 Lightning
David Wurster, Vincentric president, said this about Ford’s awards. “CPO vehicles can be a smart way for car shoppers to save on costs, but there can also be an overwhelming number of options to choose from.”
Awards Help Consumers Make Informed Choice
“The Vincentric Best CPO Value in America Awards can help consumers make an informed vehicle purchase decision. And with most of this year’s winners being repeat winners in their segments, consumers can have confidence that buying an award-winning CPO vehicle will likely deliver consistent value over time,” he concluded.
