New electric supercar maker Elextra have a vehicle in the pipeline, which has its gaze firmly fixed on Tesla.
The new fashion in the automotive world seems to be taking the electric vehicle supercar crown and the latest to come out is the Elextra from Swiss company Classic Factory which was founded by designer Robert Palm in 2009.
There doesn't seem to be any web presence for the company as yet and little information, but what we do know is that the car will have four doors, four-wheel-drive and be capable of 0 to 60 mph time of around 2.3 seconds. The preview images show a very futuristic, sleek design which shouts more futuristic supercar than everyday vehicle.
Only 100 vehicles plan to be produced, with the Swiss company using a German contractor who specialise in low volume vehicle production and ultra high quality to build the vehicles.
The car is expected to have an electric motor powering each axle and batteries seated low in the vehicle chassis for better performance and a low centre of gravity. There is no information as yet about power or range. 'The idea behind Elextra is to combine pure lines reminding of the most exciting Italian supercars of the past, whilst being resolutely forward-looking thanks to its low, sleek and beautiful design, paired with today’s most advanced technology,' said said designer Robert Palm.
The company, with its low production numbers will be focusing on high-end coach building and marketing to a limited amount of people who want a four-door ultra-luxurious EV vehicle. It's unclear if the Elextra will lead on to other vehicles, but it seems this is the way forward for most EV manufacturers, as even Tesla started off with a low production vehicles outsourced to a third party builder.
Other smaller EV supercar makers such as Faraday and Lucid are on the surface well funded to move forward past very low production numbers, but it is more than likely that these and the likes of the Elextra will stay in the niche supercar bracket for the foreseeable future. There obviously needs to be more competition in the electric vehicle supercar market, who can eventually move from small production numbers to mass produced vehicles, but it still seems that Tesla are ahead of the game at this point.
The Elextra is hopefully going to be unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
