Elon Musk has made a bold prediction stating that Tesla can restore the recently exploded Cybertruck in front of the Trump Tower. From all available information, the vehicle appears to have exploded in connection to a terrorist attack.
A video of the aftermath shows several gas canisters loaded onto the Cybertruck bed, and the explosion also included fireworks, suggesting that the vehicle was rigged with these elements to multiply the explosive power.
Following the attack, the regulatory authorities have lauded the Cybertruck for containing the explosion inside the bed.
Given the Cybertruck’s thick stainless steel exterior, the explosion was deflected upwards, stopping the brunt of the force from reaching bystanders around the vehicle.
Interestingly enough, the Cybertruck’s explosive dampening properties have been demonstrated in a previous durability test where WhistlinDiesel strapped a TNT to the side of the Cybertruck.
Following that “experiment,” despite the large explosion, the Cybertruck’s stainless steel exoskeleton ended up largely unscathed.
The Cybertruck’s sturdy build protecting human lives is wonderful news, and Elon Musk, in particular, seems happy about this outcome, writing…
“Cybertruck is the worst possible choice for a car bomb, as its stainless steel armor will contain the blast better than any other commercial vehicle.”
This is well and good; however, in the heat of everything going on, the Tesla CEO appears to have taken this good news and, in response to an X user, proceeded to take on a major challenge.
A Tesla fan on X, Chloe Cole, writes, “Imagine trying to intimidate Trump and Elon Musk with a car bomb, but you end up just killing yourself and running a Cybertruck ad campaign.”
In response, the Tesla CEO writes, “I’m pretty sure we could get [the exploded Cybertruck] running again too.”

Given how well the Cybertruck has held up under these unfortunate circumstances, it’s interesting that Elon Musk decided to up the ante by suggesting that Tesla can restore the vehicle to working condition.
This might be a noble pursuit, given the symbolic defiance. However, past experience with damaged Cybertrucks on the road suggests the task will definitely be daunting.
Even amongst Cybertruck owners who are big Tesla fans, the sentiment is that the vehicle is too difficult to fix. There is even a running joke where a Cybertruck owner shares a small fender bender, and the community responds, saying the vehicle needs to be totaled.
Over the past few months, we’ve also seen the astronomical costs incurred by Cybertruck owners when they try to fix their broken vehicles.
A few weeks ago, we covered a story of one Cybertruck owner who says he hit a pothole while driving his truck and broke the rear subframe. After the pothole incident, the Cybertruck cost $34,000 and took 4 months to fix.
Another Cybertruck owner was involved in a minor fender bender, and he shared that Tesla quoted him $13,304 to fix his truck.
We’ve also seen several Cybertrucks involved in road accidents that were totaled because they were deemed irreparable or too expensive to fix.
However, going back to the recently damaged Cybertruck. The videos of the Cybertruck after the explosion show that the vehicle is clearly badly damaged.
The truck has extensive burns throughout the interior and exterior; the explosion has broken all the glass, and everything, including the windows, glass roof, and windshield, is shattered into pieces.
The roof structure has buckled, the tailgate is broken, and all the plastic pieces have flown off. I’m sure all the delicate electronics, including the cameras, screens, and computers, are also damaged.
Overall, looking at the aftermath, it would be surprising if Tesla managed to restore the vehicle to “driving conditions.” However, please let me know if you think Tesla and Elon Musk are up to the task.
