If you thought the Tesla model S was fast, it's just got that bit faster with a race spec. GT model capable of 0-60mph in 2.1 seconds.
The race spec. Model S was recently unveiled at the Autosport International’s Live Action Arena which was part of the 2017 Autosport International Show, N.E.C., U.K. The car has been stripped out to the tune of 500 kg and made more race ready to start its attack on the Electric GT (EGT) championship. The version 2 has a Tesla Model S P100D at its heart with a completely stripped out interior, upgraded suspension and brakes, slick tires and roll cage. This has dropped the weight of the vehicle by 500 kg and will give 585 kW or 778 HP and 734lbs. ft. of torque.
Quite impressive when you consider a Tesla Model S P100D in Ludicrous mode will do 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds. The maximum speed of the race ready Tesla is 155 mph which is hoped to be able to maintain this level of speed throughout the duration of the race. The car will also sport Pirelli Pzero tires for dry conditions and Pirelli Wet tires for heavy rain.
The Electric GT season will hit European courses such as Barcelona and the Nürburgring, ahead of racing in the US, which will consist of a 37 mile day race and the same again after dark. The race will have 10 total teams and 20 drivers all using the souped up Model S.
The video of the event is only a short one, but it does give you a glimpse into the initial power of the vehicle with plenty of white smoke coming from those tires to show you Tesla vehicles are now well in the game on the racing front. It's also good news for Tesla in general as they can fire right back at the likes of Faraday Futures who are snapping at their heels as one of the fastest EV vehicles to be coming up. Ironically, Tesla head Elon Musk predicted in a tweet that a stripped down Model S P100D in Ludicrous mode could near the 2 second mark. Seems he wasn't that far out.
