Cadillac is the luxury arm of General Motors and over the past few years, this premium brand has returned to glory as one of the best luxury brands in the world. New models like the ELR and ATS have helped to bring new interest to the brand from new segments while the new XTS and redesigned CTS allow Cadillac to be a top competitor throughout the US market.

The sales results are in for August 2012 and for the folks at General Motors, it was a good month with all four of their existing brands showing positive growth – helping the largest of the Detroit Big 3 to beat out Nissan and BMW in terms of year over year growth.

The Cadillac XTS has stormed onto the full size luxury car scene, doing a fine job of replacing both the STS and the DTS in terms of luxury and spaciousness but reports indicate that GM’s luxury line is planning a new full size, rear wheel drive flagship sedan that will take aim at the BMW 7 Series.

The first official fuel economy ratings for the upcoming 2013 Cadillac ATS sedan have hit the internet and the base model rear wheel drive sedan with the 2.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission will offer 22 miles per gallon around town and 33mpg on the highway.

General Motors has loosely discussed the possibility of building a production version of the Cadillac Converj – a luxury coupe based on the hybrid electric drivetrain of the Chevrolet Volt – but reports now indicate that the electric Cadillac will be named the ELR and it will arrive late in 2013 as a 2014 model year vehicle.
