Subaru’s First VIZIV Performance Concept Could Preview New 2020 WRX STI

For the first tine, Subaru brings a VIZIV Performance Concept to the Tokyo Motor Show 2017. Is this a preview of the new-generation 2020 Subaru WRX STI?

While this concept sedan will likely never make it production as it looks in the teaser image, it does show what Subaru has in mind for the future. Could this be a preview of the new-generation 2020 Subaru WRX STI performance sedan? It’s just speculation at this point, but why would Subaru bring a sports sedan concept to the Tokyo Motor Show 2017 next month unless it’s a forerunner of a future model? The Japanese automaker has brought VIZIV (Vision for Innovation”) SUVs to other shows that will make it to production.

Remember the VIZIV Future Concept? This was a forerunner of the new Ascent 3-Row SUV production model coming next year for American consumers. They followed it with the VIZIV-7 Concept at the LA Auto Show which gave us a closer look at the new 7-or-8 passenger Subaru crossover coming in 2018 that’s being built in Lafayette, Indiana.

We know Subaru is redesigning the WRX STI for the 2020MY and it will ride on the new Subaru Global Platform. The performance WRX and WRX STI will be safer and will get more new safety features. Subaru says the VIZIV Performance Concept will come with their “latest installation of advanced driver-assist technology, with EyeSight at its core.” Safety is core value for the brand and its advanced driver-assist technology will be enhanced in Subaru’s performance cars.

Subaru’s WRX and WRX STI will evolve with the “worldview of driving with Enjoyment and Peace of mind” that is typical of Subaru. The new-generation WRX/STI will get new exterior styling to reflect the brands new design language. The VIZIV Performance Concept Subaru unveils at the Tokyo Motor Show October 25 could be a forerunner of the 2020 Subaru WRX STI. Subaru will also premier the new Japan-spec 2018 WRX STI S208 and 2018 BRZ STI Sport performance models at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017.
