While this concept sedan will likely never make it production as it looks in the teaser image, it does show what Subaru has in mind for the future. Could this be a preview of the new-generation 2020 Subaru WRX STI performance sedan? It’s just speculation at this point, but why would Subaru bring a sports sedan concept to the Tokyo Motor Show 2017 next month unless it’s a forerunner of a future model? The Japanese automaker has brought VIZIV (Vision for Innovation”) SUVs to other shows that will make it to production.
Remember the VIZIV Future Concept? This was a forerunner of the new Ascent 3-Row SUV production model coming next year for American consumers. They followed it with the VIZIV-7 Concept at the LA Auto Show which gave us a closer look at the new 7-or-8 passenger Subaru crossover coming in 2018 that’s being built in Lafayette, Indiana.
We know Subaru is redesigning the WRX STI for the 2020MY and it will ride on the new Subaru Global Platform. The performance WRX and WRX STI will be safer and will get more new safety features. Subaru says the VIZIV Performance Concept will come with their “latest installation of advanced driver-assist technology, with EyeSight at its core.” Safety is core value for the brand and its advanced driver-assist technology will be enhanced in Subaru’s performance cars.
Subaru’s WRX and WRX STI will evolve with the “worldview of driving with Enjoyment and Peace of mind” that is typical of Subaru. The new-generation WRX/STI will get new exterior styling to reflect the brands new design language. The VIZIV Performance Concept Subaru unveils at the Tokyo Motor Show October 25 could be a forerunner of the 2020 Subaru WRX STI. Subaru will also premier the new Japan-spec 2018 WRX STI S208 and 2018 BRZ STI Sport performance models at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017.

Yes, bring it back! It's speculation at this point but the concept could reveal a lot about the new-generation STI. Or it could be the new-gen Legacy?

The first time I read sport sedan I think Subaru will make new model that does not exist! That time I wish it's large size sedan same as Nissan Maxima, Toyota Avalon, Chevrolet Impala, Dodge Charger, Ford Taurus, Kia Cadenza, Hyundai Azera, now i know it's mostly for the next WRX but i wish Subaru enter competition in large size sedan category and make 2 engines one from Subaru Ascent and the another one is new 6 cylinder twin turbo to compete Dodge Charger V8 5.7L, Ford Taurus SHO, Kia Stinger
Are sure it's a sedan ?

Are sure it's a sedan ?
Don't you think it might be a mix between a trunk and a hatch, like the Honda Civic ?
Less development and building costs, more happy WRX/WRX STI fans...

If we're talkin sports sedan, I'm thinking legacy.
I hope Subaru has the brains to bring back the hatch. Everybody and they're momma knows the 2008-2014 hatch was way more favored than the 2011-2014 sedan
Deeply looking at the pic, I

Deeply looking at the pic, I would say it's too widebody and compact scale to be a Legacy.
Totally agree with you about sedan / hatch.
Another question is : will Subaru keep its WRX going on rally-bred philosophy or orient it to a more track machine ?
