Ford Mechanic Talks About Transmissions That Self Destruct

An experienced Ford mechanic offers this warning to Ford owners who may not be aware that their transmission may be one of those known to self-destruct, but can potentially be averted if you know where to look for the developing problem with these specific transmissions.

Known Issues with Transmissions

Just like with some car and truck engines that are known for being predisposed toward having serious mechanical failure requiring an overhaul or replacement, some transmissions suffer similar fates.

In fact, just like a chain which is only as strong as its weakest link, some transmissions are known to fail only because a simple component when broken, cascades into a transmission self-destructing before the vehicle owner can recognize and react in time to prevent irreparable damage from occurring.

That’s the message in a recent FordTechMakaluco YouTube channel episode where its host warns Ford owners about a frequent problem with Ford's 6R80 six speed transmissions in the 2009-2014 Ford F-150, which also applies to the 2007-2014 Expeditions with the 6R75 and 6R80 transmissions.

The source of the problem is the transmission coolant lines that are snapping in two in the same spot resulting in an immediate loss of transmission coolant that then leads to the transmission burning up. The damage can easily cost the owner about $6,000 to have repaired.

To learn more about how this is a problem, here is the video in its entirety that shows where to look to identify if you have this transmission and where to look for the coolant line connector that needs a replacement option to prevent this from happening to you.
