Tesla Cybertruck Owner Says He’ll Be Driving His Escalade The Rest of Winter to Avoid Salt on the Road from Rusting His Truck
For most Cybertruck owners, this is the first winter they will experience after buying their truck, and they appear worried.
Some Cybertruck owners have the usual concerns about the performance of EVs in the cold; however, others are worried about how the salt on the road will affect their trucks.
A Tesla Cybertruck owner from Michigan, Jacob, says he so worried about the salt on the road corroding his truck that he has decided to not drive it the rest of winter.
Jacob shared his concern on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.
Here is what he wrote…
“It just started to snow here in Michigan, and with that comes SALT! I think I'm going to drive my old Cadilac Escalade while they are salting the roads this winter.”
This is certainly a surprising statement to hear from a Cybertruck owner, especially given that Tesla and Elon Musk have touted the Cybertruck as an apocalypse-proof vehicle.
I guess there won’t be anyone to salt the streets during an apocalypse?
Continuing his post, Jacob says he is not entirely certain that the salt will corrode his Cybertruck, but he still believes it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Here is what he wrote…
Now I doubt that the salt will rust holes in the Cybertruck stainless steel but tarnish it maybe? Maybe it can be buffed out in the spring with Bar Keepers Friend? Then there is the galvanic corrosion that occurs between aluminum and stainless. I'm sure that the engineers at Tesla took that into consideration but how well? Anyway, just wanted to see what other members on Cybertruck Owners Club think about it.”
Looking at the comments, more Cybertruck owners shared their fear that the winter salt might rust their trucks.
A Cybertruck owner from Boston, Massachusetts, Koolio, writes…
“I'm curious about this salt/erosion as well. I'd be truly shocked if it gets ruined over several winters.
That said, I spoke with a local detailer / PPF installer who specializes in Cybertrucks. The owner owns one as well, and when I called inquiring about corrosion or staining, they said they did see some last winter and that they couldn't fully get the stains out.
Another Cybertruck owner from Illinois, who goes by the username Mongo on the forum, seconds this sentiment writing…
“Yep, Michigan here also. Salt in winter, and calcium chloride in summer (dirt roads at least). We run the Cybertruck through an automatic car wash now and then. The most bathed vehicle I've ever had.”
