A Tesla Fan Says He Wants to Give Direct Financial Assistance to the EV Maker by Accepting a Lousy Trade-in Offer – Adds, “I’m Super Happy Tesla Will Pocket the Difference”

In a first-of-its-kind act of philanthropy, a Tesla fan says he will be accepting a lower trade-in offer from Tesla than he can get otherwise. His reason is that he wants to help Tesla financially & adds “I’m super happy Tesla will pocket the difference.”

Bradford Ferguson is a current 2020 Tesla Model Y owner and he’s looking to upgrade to the new 2025 refreshed model.

Bradford says that Tesla offered him a lower trade-in price for his 2020 Model Y than he could obtain in the open market. Nonetheless, he states that he’s very happy to sell his older Model Y to Tesla at a loss in order to help the EV maker earn more money.

The enthusiastic Tesla supporter shared his decision on X.

He writes…

“I am trading in my 2020 Model Y directly to Tesla to get the new Model Y.

I will get less money for it than I could get with a private seller, but I am super happy that Tesla will pocket the difference.”

Finally Bradford concludes his post simply writing…

“For the mission! 🚀”

Below his post, Bradford also tagged another post in which he announced that he had been assigned a VIN for his brand-new Model Y.

He writes…

“I got a VIN. Got it insured. Now I wait for a delivery date.”

Along with this post, Bradford shared a screenshot from his Tesla app that details the configuration of his new Model Y.

Bradford has placed an order for a $60,000 Launch Edition Model Y, featuring quick silver paint and 19-inch cross-flow wheels.

Tesla estimates that Bradford’s refreshed Model Y will be delivered within the next week.

The EV maker writes…

“Estimated Delivery: March 4 - March 12

We'll notify you when it's time to continue with your pre-delivery tasks”

$60,000 is not a small amount for a mid-sized SUV; however, Bradford appears eager to assist the EV maker financially even further.

This is definitely an interesting strategy, and looking at the comments, people had conflicting reactions in response to Bradford’s donations to Tesla.

One X user, Jason, writes…

“Donations aren't required. Tesla will manage. They need to reduce the minimum price of used vehicles by about 30-50% to reach the broader market. There isn't an EV for the everyday blue-collar worker yet."

In response, Bradford comes in Tesla’s defense saying that the EV maker does make a vehicle for the blue collar worker, writing…

“Yes, there is. The new Model 3 now costs less per mile to run and maintain compared to a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic.”

Another X user, SabL, added that Bradford should have taken the higher trade-in amount and used it to buy Tesla shares.

SabL in response to Bradford’s decision writes…

“That’s just lazy, to be honest. Instead, you should have sold your Model Y privately and invested the difference in Tesla stock or something.”

Good choice with the new Model Y regardless 🙌”

Another Tesla Model Y owner, Jakub writes..

“Carvana is offering me $3,000 more than Tesla for our Model Y.  Tesla has plenty of money for the mission.”

These are some Tesla owners who opposed Bradford’s decision, while several Tesla fans have also supported it.

One Tesla fan, Nick, says he has also accepted a lower trade-in from Tesla to help the company.

Nick simply writes…

“Brother, I’ve been there.”

In response Bradford says…

“Thanks for your contribution!”
