I bought my first new Toyota…
I bought my first new Toyota Truck, a 2023 Tundra Hybrid Capstone. It is a very beautiful truck. I did buy the service package with my new truck, but soon realized that Toyota only suggest oil changes every 15,000km. I have just retired after being a Honda tech for the same company and position for 2 months short of 50 years. It didn’t take long to realize that the majority of the engine rebuilds or failures that I came across was DIRECTLY related to dirty oil and severe engine wear, from dirty oil. Granted, new oils have the characteristics and in additives in the oils to be able to have a lubrication range to 15,000 kms. But the oil becomes dirty from air borne contaminants or from direct engine combustion and once the oil is dirty or contaminated, it’s lubrication abilities are no longer sufficient, hence, engine failure from “lack of quality lubrication”. The 5 cars or trucks in our home fleet, are almost sidelined at 5000 kms to have their oils and filter changes. My last new truck, 2004 Nissian Titan, was involved in crash, write off at 378,000 kms, with perfect running engine. No oil consumption. Change your oil!
