It probably wasn’t an actual key, but a piece of iron rebar or pipe. If enough iron transfers into the scratch rust can and does happen. It won’t spread unless the stainless is only an outer layer and not the whole way through, which I don’t think is the case. So, no, it most likely won’t continue rusting, but it will continue to look unsightly.
