I'm a master tech who also ran an accessory shop for a decade. Even drilling holes and fishing bolts through a box frame, it takes a good installer 30 minutes to an hour to install running boards so you charge for 2 hours. You can weld them on in 10 minutes. The idiots at stealerships don't even own a drill, much less a welder.
