Ford Motor held a huge seminar on automotive trends in Dearborn, Michigan. As part of the presentation, the automaker announced that it plans to have self-driving vehicles as shuttles for employees on the Ford campus by 2018.

The results for the 2016 Car & Driver Lightning Lap are in and both of the Ford vehicles in the field turned in solid times – with the new Shelby GT350T turning in the 2nd best time ever among American muscle cars and the quickest time ever for the LL2 class while the new Ford Focus RS set the best time ever by a 4-cylinder car in the 10 years of the Lightning Lap shootout.

Ford announced several investments this week in technology for self-driving cars. It also is going to provide shuttles and bikes for several major metropolitan areas. The shuttle service will start in San Francisco.

Just in time for the return of the NFL football season, the Ford F series is starting a 3-year stint as the official truck of the NFL. To celebrate the new partnership, Ford is also joining forces with Uber, providing a special fleet of F series super duty trucks that can be ordered for tailgating. The super duty truck is a bigger, more rugged version of the F-150. The trucks are usually F-250s.

The folks at Shelby American have rolled out the information on their new Ford Mustang GTE package and while I love the look of the appearance-heavy package, I don’t like the price – as for $17,999 for the components alone, the new Mustang GTE is a pricey option for someone who wants a unique pony car.

GM announced that Both the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size trucks are adding features to better compete with the Toyota Tacoma. Tacoma fans seem more concerned about a new Ford Ranger that may hit dealer lots as a 2018 model.

The sales numbers are in for August 2016 and even though muscle car sales slumped a bit last month, the Ford Mustang continued its remarkable 22 month streak of leading the monthly sales race – beating both the Chevrolet Camaro and the Dodge Challenger by sizeable amounts once again.

Ford Motor Company plans to offer a 670 horsepower version of the Ford Mustang GT with a Roush supercharger package at Australian dealerships with a full warranty, but the Australian regulatory process has caused a delay in the automaker launching these high performance models – forcing owners of the popular new Mustang to search elsewhere in their quest for more power.

Online discussions on enthusiast forums and social networks make it clear that Ford F150 fans still want a “Lightning” high performance on-road pickup, regardless of how good the 2017 Raptor F150 might be on the road and off – mainly because these folks want a short cab, short bed truck that lacks the added weight of four wheel drive.
