2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5: I See a Bigger Battery, More Power, and a Much-Needed Rear Wiper

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 has been a frontrunner in the electric crossover segment since its debut in 2021. Now, for the 2025 model year, Hyundai is giving this popular EV a welcome refresh.

Let's delve into the details of the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and see how reviewers and enthusiasts are reacting to the changes.

Range Boost and Potential Performance Gains:

The most significant upgrade for the 2025 IONIQ 5 is the increased battery capacity. The outgoing model's 77.4 kWh pack gets replaced by an 84 kWh unit. While Hyundai hasn't revealed official range figures yet, experts predict a noticeable improvement on the current maximum of 303 miles for the rear-wheel-drive variant. This aligns with comments from reviewers at Car and Driver who praised the potential for a "considerably" increased range.

As electric vehicles become more and more common, one of the most important questions that prospective buyers have is how long the battery will last. With the advent of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, customers are not only getting an exciting and highly capable electric vehicle, but are also curious to know the longevity of its battery.

The bigger battery news comes alongside the highly anticipated IONIQ 5 N, a high-performance beast boasting a staggering 641 horsepower. Early test drives by journalists like Gabriel Gélinas have generated a lot of buzz online, with forums like IONIQ 5 Forum: overflowing with excitement about this powerhouse addition to the lineup.

2025 IONIQ 5's Subtle Style Enhancements and a Practical Addition Drivers Will Appreciate:

The visual changes for the 2025 IONIQ 5 are more evolutionary than revolutionary. Redesigned front and rear bumpers offer a refreshed look, and a new, larger rear spoiler adds a touch of sportiness. However, the most talked-about addition on online forums isn't a design element at all - it's the rear wiper! Drivers who've experienced the challenges of limited rear visibility in the current model are celebrating this long-awaited improvement.

Beyond the Wiper: A Package of Refinements for a More Refined Experience:

The 2025 IONIQ 5 goes beyond just the rear wiper, offering a range of improvements that enhance both style and functionality. Here's a breakdown of some key updates:

  • Aero wheels: These new wheels not only improve efficiency but also contribute to the car's sleek aesthetic, according to reviewers at Electrek.
  • N Line version: This new trim caters to those who prefer a more aggressive look, featuring exclusive 20-inch rims. Availability in Canada remains to be confirmed, but the prospect has generated excitement on forums like Canadian EV Owners.
  • Enhanced handling and comfort: The chassis has been reworked for better handling and a quieter ride, with a focus on reducing steering jerks and improving soundproofing. Online reviewers have yet to experience these changes firsthand, but based on Hyundai's reputation for ride quality improvements in previous models, expectations are high.
  • Improved driver assistance systems: The system that detects the presence of hands on the steering wheel has been refined and now features LED illuminated pixels for better visibility. This is a welcome safety upgrade, as noted by safety-conscious reviewers on InsideEVs.
  • Revised controls and user interface: The control interface for the heating and air conditioning system has been revamped for easier use, and new shortcut buttons provide quick access to frequently used functions. This usability improvement is a common request on online forums, and should be a welcome change for all drivers.

The Takeaway: A Well-Rounded Evolution for a Popular EV

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 seems to be a well-rounded evolution of an already popular electric car. The bigger battery, potential power increase with the N Line and standard models, and practical improvements like the rear wiper and refined interior make it an exciting update for existing and potential owners alike.

While I wait for official range figures and driving impressions from reviewers, the early buzz suggests the 2025 IONIQ 5 is poised to continue its reign as a leader in the electric crossover segment.

Now I would like to ask you some questions about the upcoming 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5.

What features are you most excited about in the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5? Would the increased range offered by the bigger battery be enough to sway you towards the IONIQ 5 over other electric SUVs? If you're a current IONIQ 5 owner, are there any specific upgrades you're looking forward to with the 2025 model year update?

Battery range is easy to calculate at least.
77.4x3.5 at my current avg in winter in 270miles.
84 would give me 294 miles at the same drive efficiency.
Would be nice, but I've already locked in lol.

Will be interesting to test drive fl model. It will be a better car if they made suspension more premium. I drove VW ID4 and was amazed how much better the suspension is on basic VW.

It will not change my current IONIQ 5 a bit. So I do not really see why I should be excited about it.

Exactly what I asked for at the first showing two+ years ago. While this is purely cosmetic, I'd like to see the silver trim painted body color, at least on the top line, like the N model, plus 19" wheels standard on the Limited for lower tire cost, better ride, and better range.
