In some places of the nation Tesla Model S owners are reporting increase in Tesla car insurance cost and siting three reasons for it.
The discussions related to the increase of Tesla auto insurance cost are happening in the forums and Facebook groups as well as in the media. Let's take a look at them.
Tesla Insurance Cost an Autopilot
The first reason is related to the increase in recent Tesla crashes related to Autopilot. Here is another Tesla hitting a stopped vehicle while on Autopilot. People are realizing you can't make this stuff up.
Ars Technica blames high collision costs for the increase of Tesla car insurance premium. "The Model S is now the most expensive car to insure," reads the story. Yet, it also says that it's not the faulty Autopilot, but the inattentive drivers who put too much trust in Autopilot, which they shouldn't. This is why I wrote that Tesla either has to change the name of the Autopilot and name it a simple lane keep or remove it because neither humans nor the technology are ready for it.
Tesla Makes Insurance Cost More Expensive
I noticed that someone blamed Elon Musk and Tesla for making your insurance more expensive. Only Tesla or Tesla partners are allowed to touch your car if something happens. This adds to your wait time to fix. Salvaging a Tesla is sometimes cheaper than fixing. Someone has to pay for those. These things add to the cost of your Tesla car insurance. These are yet other contributing factors of why your Tesla Insurance Premium is going up if it does. The high cost of repairing aluminum bodywork also contributes to it.
Car Insurance Cost Increases If Your State Law Changes
One Tesla Model S owner wrote me that his car insurance cost went up by 30 percent. He writ eh has no claims or no tickets. Guess why. He lives in Las Vegas. The car insurance company told him because weed is now legal in Vegas insurance prices go up.
This makes sense to me. If more people driver under the influence of week the more risk we will have on the roads.
Some people do say that their Tesla insurance cost has not changed.
Just because you live in a place with cheap insurance does not mean others' insurance are not going up after insurance companies seeing their profit margin fall. You need to read more as more people are really getting their insurance going up. AAA is up already 30% for most during renew.
Some people say Liberty Mutual has the cheapest Tesla insurance. But again, I think it will depend on your state and laws too.
Has your insurance gone up recently? Has anything changed in your rate recently? Please, share your thoughts and how much you are paying for your Tesla insurance and where you found the cheapest insurance for your Tesla. You can write below, in the comments section.
It is common knowledge that
It is common knowledge that the reason Tesla requires certified body shops is because they have aluminum bodies and require special tools and training...and yes the new tooling and training makes it more expensive. The Model 3 is Steel and should not have that requirement (though I confess I don't know that).
Teslas are ultra expensive to
Teslas are ultra expensive to repair, parts are crazy expensive assuming you can even get the and getting work done at Tesla is $150US per hour, all contributing factors
Yes mine doubled its due to
Yes mine doubled its due to the cost of body repairs and no aftermarket body panel option and all the sensors and proably all the bad PR from autopilot.
We just bought a Model 3, and
We just bought a Model 3, and our insurance has just doubled. We live in Los Angeles county and purchased our vehicle without autopilot. This is wayyyy more than I ever expected to see.
