While it might seem outlandish to say “just” before talking about a $54,200 Ford Mustang, it should be kept in mind that the 2013 Shelby GT500 is the most powerful and fastest full production Mustang ever built; in what has been a long and glorious history of high performance cars. There aren’t many options with the 2013 GT500 since, like a proper performance car, there is no automatic transmission offered and the GT500 is so loaded up that there isn’t much that you need to add. There is the SVT Performance Package that adds a Torsen differential, unique 19” wheels in the front, unique 20” wheels out back, Bilstein adjustable dampers, unique rear springs, a unique shift knob and a unique gauge cluster for $3,495. Other than the SVT Performance package, there is just the Glass Roof option for $1,995, a $375 dollar Shelby car cover, the interior electronics package for $2,340, the Shaker audio system for $1,295 and the Recaro race style seats from the Boss 302 for $1,595. If you go through and check the box for all of the options above, including the seats from the Boss 302, the Glass Roof and the SVT Performance Package, the 2013 Shelby GT500 will set you back around $66,090.
$66,090 is a whole lot of money for a muscle car but when you consider the incredible level of engineering and performance behind the 2013 Shelby GT500 – and the incredible capabilities with a top speed over 200 miles per hour – the GT500 is a bargain racer that can be driven on the street. More importantly, if you don’t want all of the electronic gadgets or any other options that don’t improve performance and you opt only for the SVT Performance Package, the MSRP of what is likely the highest performance Mustang production model ever is just $58,490. This is a GT500 that will likely throw down mid 11 second quarter mile times on the drag strip while also being able to eclipse the 200 mile per hour mark…all in a factory production Ford Mustang. Wow is right.
Not to be forgotten, the 650 horsepower 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 is also available as a convertible and the droptop Shelby carries a base price of $59,200. The GT500 convertible also offers the SVT Performance Package for the same price as the hardtop as well as the Shelby car cover, the electronics package and the Recaro seats. If you check all of the option boxes in the convertible configurator, the 2013 GT500 vert tops out at a hefty $69,050 but with just the standard features and the SVT Performance Package, the price sits at $63,490 for those more concerned about going fast than having interior gadgets.
All of the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustangs, whether hardtop or convertible, are available in 8 exterior colors out of which only Red Candy Tinted Clearcoat carries an upcharge ($395). Inside, leather surfaces are standard in the your choice of three different black options with either black, red or white trim.
My ideal 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 would be a hardtop with the SVT Performance Package in Grabber Blue (like the one on the right) with the Recaro seats – a car that costs $60,085 but it never hurts to dream.
