So far, the only official images of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Bumblebee Concept show the front end and the driver’s side but these shots of this unique Camaro seem to highlight the most significant features of the Transformers 4 hero car. This car is very obviously a Camaro and the color scheme is very clearly Bumblebee but this Camaro Concept is unlike any Camaro ever featured on the silver screen or the automotive stage.
The most distinct changes between the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro headed to showrooms later this year and the Bumblebee Camaro Concept are found across the front end. The Transformers 4 Camaro wears a very high riding grille design with super narrow LED headlights, unique sculpting to the front ‘bumper” area and a massive lower grille opening – all of which are very different from what we will see on dealership lots soon. This Camaro Concept (as it is referred to by Michael Bay) also has a sporty lower chin spoiler that used exposed fasteners and contrasting black trim to create a very race-ready look.
Along the sides, the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Concept that will serve as the “final jewel in the Transformers 4 crown” has a form that is very similar to the normal production Camaro but the rear quarter panels appear to be flared more than the production model. There are also unique vents in the lower rocker area that serve to continue the performance-minded look of the movie-bound Camaro. More black cladding along the lower rocker sills are joined by some great-looking gloss black wheels wrapped in Goodyear Eagle tires (that are easily distinguished by the bright yellow lettering). We also see in these two images that the Bumblebee Camaro has some unusual door handles that probably arent actually functional in addition to the familiar Autobots badging on the front fenders.
We cannot see the back end of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Concept featured in Transformers 4 but based on spy shots that have been floating around the web – the rear end will look very similar to the production models with the new one-unit taillight design. We can also expect more black cladding through the lower splitter in addition to the aggressive spoiler mounted on the trunk lid – and painted black, of course.
Seeing this new Bumblebee Camaro gets me wondering if this design has really just been penned and built for Transformers 4 or if this offers us some glimpse into the future of the Chevrolet Camaro. We are fully expecting the introduction of the 6th generation Camaro within the next couple years and – surprisingly – we have not heard nor seen much about that next gen muscle car. This Camaro could be nothing more than the imagination of whoever designed this car for Transformers 4…or it could be a hint of what is coming in the not-so-distant future. While I certainly don’t expect that this is the 2015 or 2016 Camaro, this high tech front end could share features with the 6th generation Camaro. In any case, this is a car that is bound to be a popular vehicle in the toy and apparel market with the launch of the movie next year.
