The folks at Autoblog have a collection of spyshots showing what is believed to be the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 testing at the Nürburgring. The car is covered with white and black camo, but it only does so much to hide some of the more extreme features of the mysterious Chevy muscle car.
In these images, the Camaro has a massive set of dive planes extending from the front corners with what looks to be a more aggressive chin spoiler than that seen on the 2017 Camaro ZL1. Along the sides, there are the expected side sills which reach further to the ground than the other Camaros, but the most significant feature of the Z28 test mule at the Nürburgring is the wing sitting high above the trunk lid of the high performance muscle car.
In other spy photos of the Camaro Z28, we have seen some with lower rear spoilers and some with other rear spoilers – all of which were covered, so we couldn’t see any detail on the setup of the wing design. This led us to believe that the Z28 could have different rear spoiler design options, but perhaps it could be one, seriously adjustable spoiler?
Serious Adjustability?
In examining the various spyshots of the new Camaro Z28 online, it certainly seems that the car is being tested with more than one style of rear spoiler, but in looking at the newest spyshots, there “wing” sits on a trio of pedestals which are bolted into place. It looks a little crude, but I wonder if this spoiler position isn’t in some sort of track position. Perhaps the extensions connecting the base of the spoiler legs to the trunk lid can be removed, so the same spoiler can be used in two different height settings.
There is also the possibility that this is just an early test version of an extreme aerodynamics package for the 6th generation Camaro Z28, but in any case, if the rear spoiler and front dive planes make it to production, this will be the most aero-aggressive Camaro ever sold for street use.
In addition to the possibility of the wicked aerodynamics package, the upcoming Camaro Z28 will almost certainly have huge Brembo brakes, lightweight wheels with sticky tires, a track-ready suspension setup and a fairly minimal list of standard features, such as the minimal sound system, the old school halogen style headlights and a very minimal climate control system.
