The first official look at the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Hyundai has made huge strides in making their vehicles more aggressive which is best seen in their sporty models like the Genesis Coupe and the Veloster – and thanks to some leaked images on a Korean Hyundai blog, we have what looks to be our first clear look at the refreshed 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

Hyundai plans to formally unveil the 2013 Genesis Coupe at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit next January but spy shots have been floating around the internet for some time now. A variety of photoshopped images showing what the new Genesis Coupe will probably look like combined with those spy shots have left little to the imagination but with the shots shown on the right – it looks like these could be official shots that will appear in an upcoming company brochure for the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

As you can see in the pictures on the right, the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe will retain the overall shape of the current Genesis Coupe but the headlights and massive central grille opening are refreshed; similar to what we see on the current Hyundai lineup including the new Veloster. The car still sits very low with a nice wide stance, while a newly sculpted hood works with the new headlights and grille to provide a fresh look. The second image shows the 2013 Genesis Coupe from the rear and while it doesn’t show many changes, we can see that the taillights will differ quite a bit from the current models while the lower fascia will still house the angular tailpipes.

There is no question that Hyundai aims to offer a unique look and whether you love or hate the current familial styling of the Hyundai lineup, there is no denying that it is aggressive and distinctive. In an industry where so many brands offer models that just blend into the environment, models like the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe use the sharp styling to stand out from the crowd…if this is indeed an official image, that is.

No other information has been offered on the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe but with the news that the Hyundai Veloster will be getting a new turbocharged version of the 1.6L Gamma engine, many expect that the turbocharged 4-cylinder option in the Genesis Coupe to get a bump in power to distance itself from the Veloster. When the 4-cylinder engine gets a bump, we can expect that the 3.8L V6 will also get a bump in power so the output of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe with the V6 engine option could get somewhere in the area of 325 horsepower.
