While Ford has offered us very little along the lines of actual information on the new vehicle coming to the 2011 SEMA Show, the video below offers a good look at some distinguishing characteristics of the original 1964 to 1966 Ford Mustang. As the camera pans from area to area of the obviously unfinished vehicle, you catch a glimpse at a few items that suggest that this is a first generation Mustang. First, the camera pans along the cowl area around 0:04 showing 6 slotted vents – identical to those seen on the cowl of the 1964-1966 Mustang. Next, around the 0:18 mark, the camera shows a close up shot of the rear quarter panel end minus the finishing cap along with the unfinished rear panel and the rounded trunklid. The next good shot of the 2011 SEMA Show car, and the one that I feel really identifies this car as a first generation Mustang, is the rear wheel well shot beginning around the 0:28 mark. This shows the thick body line the starts just in front of the rear wheels and run forward, fading away as it nears the front of the 1964-1966 Mustang. The video then includes an interview with a Ford bigwig and a few more tight shots of the new work in progress. The gallery on the right side offers a close up look at these key screenshots. For reference, we have included a shot of a gorgeous 1965 Ford Mustang from the 2011 Indy Mecum Auction on the right side, above the gallery.
So, what does this all mean? From what is said in the video, Ford will be introducing some new restoration parts for the 1964 through 1966 Ford Mustang but just which parts – we won’t know until the SEMA Show opens next month. In past years, the Chrysler Corporation has introduced new productions of vintage components including body panels for various muscle cars and from the looks of the video below, Ford will roll out new body components for the original Mustang. It could be something as simple as new fenders or quarter panels for those trying to clean up their vintage Mustang but it could also be something as elaborate as a fully new body – allowing 1st generation Mustang owners to have entirely new bodies on their beloved pony cars.

I have a 65 and a 66, both

I have a 65 and a 66, both are finished show cars. This looks exciting that we can get quality Ford parts for these cars. My bet is 1965/66.
Judging from the sneak peek

Judging from the sneak peek it's a new '65 Mustang body. Probably a Convertible. It is NOT a '64 1/2 due to the radiator core support. '64 1/2s had louvers in front of the battery location. '65-6s had 4 slots. Dynacorn already makes a Ford licensed '67-8 Mustang fastback body. A '65-6 is the logical next choice.
