Hyundai teases the upcoming 2011 Veloster

We are just 6 days away from the Detroit Auto Show debut of the 2011 Hyundai Veloster and today, the Korean automaker offered up a fairly descriptive teaser of the new hatchback.

Over the past few months, we have been privy to plenty of spy footage showing the 2011 Hyundai Veloster in heavy “mule camo”, leading to much speculation over what we could expect in the way of doors and seating. The Hyundai teaser site (click here for more on that) offers a shadowy image from the front, showing a very low, sporty profile but it doesn’t tell us much else. This image puts all of that speculation to rest as we see that the Veloster has 4 full-sized doors and a rear hatch design that could create a massive cargo area. This image also shows off a set of sporty split-spoke wheels that really fill out the wheel openings and the hard angles inside continue that sporty feel.

The Hyundai press conference is set for 2:55 on Monday at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, at which time we can expect the full debut of the 2011 Veloster. So far, we only know for a fact that the Veloster will feature a dual-clutch (automatic) transmission, a direct injection engine yielding 40mpg and Bluetooth capabilities but rumors suggest that the new hot Korean hatch will be powered by a 4-cylinder packing somewhere in the area of 140hp. This puts the Veloster slightly below the 160hp Ford Focus hatchback but with fuel economy numbers for the new Ford not-yet-announced, the Hyundai could hold the advantage in mpg (and possibly price).
