Each month, TorqueNews works with the members from the Camaros Unlimited Facebook group to select our Camaro of the Month. The process begins with the members of the Camaros Unlimited Facebook page – more than 43,000 of them – nominating their favorite Chevrolet Camaro owned by a fellow member of the page. Once five owners have been nominated, the voting begins and when the balloting closes – we have our Camaro of the Month.
For January 2020, the members chose this stunning 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS, owned by Dave and Cindy Smith from Buffalo, Iowa. This is actually the second time that the community has voted their Matador Red muscle car into the title spot, with this Camaro RS/SS winning its first title back in September of 2018.
The Smith RS/SS Camaro
Normally, our Camaro of the Month feature would now go into the part where we learn about the story of this car. However, we got that story from Dave and Cindy Smith back in September of 2018. We spoke to Cindy recently and learned that since then, nothing about the car has changed. The only real difference is that they are no longer with their car club, but with regard to their 1968 Camaro, nothing has changed in the past 16 months.
With that in mind, click here to read the full story of how this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS arrived at its current, show-stopping state. It served as a daily driver for a few years until the engine died, then it sat for 35 years before being restored and fitted with a powerful small block crate motor.
Congratulations to Dave and Cindy Smith and their 1968 Camaro RS/SS for winning the TorqueNews/Camaros Unlimited Camaro of the Month for the second time. This car has been brought back to life and today, the car and its family are enjoying their best life together.
