No automaker sells more rear-wheel-drive performance cars in America than Dodge, with Chrysler and Jeep offering up a few of their own V8-powered performance machines. With FCA brand offering so many vehicles that shine on the drag strip, the automaker has teamed up with the National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) drag racing series for the 2018 season to hold the Dodge/Mopar HEMI Shootout. This class is only open to 2005-newer FCA vehicles and best of all, admission is free.
“The National Muscle Car Association series is an excellent venue for Dodge//SRT and Mopar to give owners of our modern-day FCA US LLC vehicles, including the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger, the opportunity to drag race in a sanctioned, controlled environment,” said Steve Beahm, Head of Passenger Cars, Dodge//SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA North America. “We’re continuing our efforts to take racing off the street and put it where it belongs — the drag strip — by providing complimentary entry into the Dodge/Mopar HEMI Shootout category.”
Dodge/Mopar HEMI Shootout Details
At each of the six 2018 NMCA events, the Dodge/Mopar HEMI Shootout will be open to all FCA brand vehicles from the 2005 through 2018 model years – not just Hemi-powered vehicles and not just Dodge/SRT brands. Participation is free (a $175 value, good for a car and driver) and it is open to the first 75 vehicles registered for each event. Owners can register online at www.NMCAdigital.com/hemi and an NMCA membership is not required for participation.
The Dodge/Mopar HEMI Shootout will be held on the Saturday of each NMCA event, but participants are welcome to arrive on Thursday or Friday of the event. The free pass also gets Hemi drivers a complimentary entry into the Sunday Bracket 3/Street class.
The Dodge/Mopar HEMI Shootout is a unique program, allowing modern Mopar drivers a chance to experience the power of their machine in a safe environment. Rather than side-by-side races, the HEMI Shootout is comprised of a series of single-car runs and the winner in each of the 9 classes is based on the quickest average time over the course of three runs. There are classes for 9-second to 15-second cars with cash prizes in each class, along with prizes for the quickest overall ET in the Shootout.
“Together, the Mopar and Dodge brands share a long and respected legacy in the world of drag racing, and we’re proud to add another chapter to that tradition with this new initiative in the NMCA,” said Pietro Gorlier, Head of Parts and Service (Mopar), FCA. “Mopar is about providing owners with the tools they need to not only be fast on the strip, but also secure on the streets, and this new program helps us push forward to reaching those goals.”
Each modern Mopar owner gets a free pass to one of the events, provided that you sign up soon enough, since there are only 75 free entries slated for each event. The list of events is available below.
