TorqueNews has been working with the Camaros Unlimited Facebook group for the past few years to select our Camaro of the Month. Every month, more than 47,000 hardcore Chevy muscle car fans nominate their favorite muscle car that is owned by another member of the group. Once five nominees are selected, the group votes on their favorite of those five and when the voting ends, the Camaro of the Month is named.
For November 2020, the community chose the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS Convertible shown here, owned by Tres Black. We reached out to Black for the details on his gorgeous muscle car and below, you will find his story.
Tres Black’s 1967 Camaro RS/SS
I acquired my 1967 Camaro SS/RS 350 4-speed convertible back in the fall of 2001. The car is loaded with many options such as power steering, power disc brakes, deluxe interior, RS trim package, power top, just to name a few.
The car was restored to a B level, and was a fun car to drive when I first purchased it. As the years went on, the car went through several changes including a complete full cosmetic restoration, and driveline modifications.
The power plant is a 408 cubic inch small block Chevy making a little over 600 horsepower at the crank. The transmission is a Muncie M-22Z 4-speed with special gearing, and other pieces from Auto Gear Equipment. Out back is a GM 12 bolt posi with an Eaton Tru-Trac center section, Strange Engineering axles, and a Strange 3.55 gear set. Shifting duties are accomplished with a 50 year old, NOS, P&G in-line shifter.
The car gets a lot of use, from car shows, cruise-in’s and long drives to some track side activity as well. The car currently runs the ¼ mile in 11.90 seconds @ 115mph, and 7.67 seconds @ 93 mph in the 1/8th mile. Future plans for the car include a custom carburetor, better traction devices, and more horse power.
Congratulations to Tres Black and his 1967 Camaro RS/SS for winning the TorqueNews/Camaros Unlimited Camaro of the Month for November 2020.
