The new program, called BlueLink, was launched at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas – a regular bacchanalia of the latest in goods that consumers absolutely, must have, right this instance. The major automotive manufacturers have made the show their playground the last few years.
In the announcement, Hyundai says a variety of different features will be available at launch, including unique applications such as a maintenance alert that helps drivers identify and schedule service; an "Eco-Coach" that improves efficient driving; restaurant ratings; and remote door lock/unlock capabilities. Blue Link's innovative features continue with remote vehicle start, which allows a driver to heat or cool the car before driving; geofence, which can send a text if a driver has ventured outside prescribed borders or time constraints; and stolen vehicle slowdown to help police recover a stolen vehicle.
OnStar today announced that it is responding to repeated consumer requests by offering its industry leading safety, security and connectivity services for non-GM and older GM vehicles already on the road. A standalone rearview mirror packing all of OnStar’s core technology will be available this spring through consumer electronics retailers, and is compatible with most top-selling vehicles from major manufacturers.
The BlueLink system becomes available later this year on the Hyundai Sonata and the Hyundai Veloster, the three-door coupe that is being introduced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week. It will roll out among the rest of the Hyundai lineup in 2012 in the company’s 2013 models.
