Review- Ford Bronco Sport Custom Windshield Sunshade by WeatherTech

We test and review the WeatherTech custom-fit windshield sunshade specifically fitted to the Ford Bronco Sport. Is it better than a generic shade?

Like many car owners, I understand the importance of using a sunshade to prevent the car’s interior from overheating. As a car tester who keeps cars in my personal fleet for up to 20 years, I can attest to the long-term benefits of these shades in preserving your dash and steering wheel, and preventing them from developing cracks. In this story, we will review a custom-fit shade made by one of our favorite aftermarket accessory companies, WeatherTech.

Generic sunshades come in a couple of different sizes, but they rarely seem to fit any of the test vehicles I am lucky to get. They are either too large, and I am jamming them into the spot, or too small, and they don't stay in place well, even with visors deployed to hold them. My Bronco Sport fell in between these two extremes, and I could not find a good shade to fit among my collection of a half-dozen generic ones of various shapes and sizes. My primary objective was to find one that would fit properly.

Why WeatherTech?

I'm a long-time WeatherTech product user. I've purchased mats and cargo area liners from the company for many years and for many vehicles. They always impress me with their fit and quality. I also like WeatherTech's America-first attitude and its commitment to making products in the U.S.A.

WeatherTech Custom-Fit Sunshade for Ford Bronco Sport - The Price
I paid $66.95, not including tax, from the WeatherTech site for my custom-fit Bronco Sport sunshade. $12 of that total was shipping. The item is also available on Amazon without any shipping cost for exactly $66.95. So, you can’t pay less by using Amazon or WeatherTech. The cost is identical.

Generic sunshades cost roughly $25, so this shade is twice the cost of a non-name shade made in a goofy size, not custom-fit.

The shade came, and I could not wait to try it out. This shade folds up into a cylinder and is secured with a velcro strap, as opposed to the generic shades, which accordion fold. It unraveled just fine, and when I placed it in the windshield space, I was impressed. Just like the mats I bought from WeatherTech, the fit was absolutely perfect. I cannot imagine a better fit for such a product. Re-rolling the shade was easy. Is a tube-style better than an accordion? Who knows? If you really love this shade and want to protect it, WeatherTech sells a bag for it (size 2).

WeatherTech Custom-Fit Sunshade for Ford Bronco Sport - Quality
I can update this story later if there are any surprises, but the quality of the shade seems good to me.

WeatherTech Custom-Fit Sunshade for Ford Bronco Sport  - A Novel use For These?
WeatherTech says the shade can be turned around and installed with its black side facing out in winter to help heat up the car’s interior. Interesting. We’ll give that a try in about 6 months.

WeatherTech Custom-Fit Sunshade for Ford Bronco Sport  - Verdict
This shade seems like an indulgence, given it costs twice as much as one that is generic. However, the fit is perfect, and I’m a guy who likes things to work just right. If you want a custom fit for your Bronco Sport or any other vehicle, I would recommend the WeatherTech shade. It also seems like an ideal gift idea.
