An updated report from Edmunds says among the ten most popular models; include three Subaru SUVs; the 2023 Subaru Outback midsize SUV, the 2023 Subaru Forester compact SUV, and the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV in that order.

The ten most in-demand new models today

The Edmunds ten most researched new vehicles by new car shoppers from first to last are the Honda CR-V, Subaru Outback, Honda Passport, Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester, Subaru Crosstrek, Mazda CX-30, and Genesis GV80. They will all be hard to find this winter because of the ongoing new car shortages and supply chain issues.

Subaru has two more hot models. The Subaru Impreza compact sedan and hatchback is among the top twenty popular new models at number eighteen. The Subaru Ascent 3-Row family hauler is number nineteen on the updated list.

The 2023 Forester comes in six trim levels; The Base Forester starts at $27,620, Premium ($30,620), Sport ($32,190), Limited ($34,300), Wilderness ($35,245), and Touring ($37,720). Pricing includes dealer fees ($1,225).

All 2023 Subaru Crosstrek trim levels get a $600 price increase, including destination and delivery fees. The 2023 Crosstrek now comes in six trim levels for U.S. customers. The base trim is priced from $24,870, Premium ($26,020), Special Edition ($27,970), Sport ($29,220), Limited ($30,720), and Crosstrek Hybrid ($38.070). The EPA says the 2023 Outback Wilderness gets an estimated 21/26 city/highway mpg and 23 combined mpg.

The Subaru Forester comes with standard all-wheel drive and gets an EPA-estimated 29 combined mpg and 26/33 city/highway mpg. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine powers the Forester.

What is the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek's gas mileage?

The Subaru Crosstrek uses direct injection on its new 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine and gets 27/34 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg. The 2.0-liter engine gets 28/33 mpg and 30 combined mpg with the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) automatic, contributing to better mileage.

The third reason is that the Outback, Forester, and Crosstrek come standard with Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system for all-weather and all-terrain performance. And it doesn't hurt fuel efficiency.

The three models also come with X-Mode for additional all-weather capability, and some trim levels feature dual-function X-Mode for added deep snow and mud mode for all-terrain power.
