Even with customers having a hard time finding a new Subaru Forester on retailers’ lots, the Forester was one of the top-20 best-selling new vehicles in 2021. The 2022 Subaru Forester arrives now with a refresh, and if Subaru of America could get their hands on more compact SUVs, they could have sold more.
A new report from Kelly Blue Book lists the 20 best-selling new vehicles of 2021, and the Forester barely sneaks in at number twenty. It’s not a surprise the Ford F-150 is number one, with 726,004 trucks sold in 2021. That’s 142,194 more models than Subaru’s total vehicle sales in 2021.
20 Best-selling vehicles in 2021 are dominated by trucks and SUVs
The Ford F-150 is number one, followed by the Ram 1500, Chevrolet Silverado, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Toyota Camry, Nissan Rogue, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota Highlander, Honda Civic, Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Corolla, GMC Sierra, Ford Explorer, Jeep Wrangler, Honda Accord, Tesla Model Y, Mazda CX-5, Chevrolet Equinox, and Subaru Forester. The Tesla Model Y snuck into the top 20 for the first time.
Kelly Blue Book says, “Full-size trucks may get all three podium places, but Americans clearly love compact SUVs. The Forester is the seventh one on this list. Known for its symmetrical all-wheel-drive system and remarkable space for its small footprint, the Forester rounded up the top 20 best-sellers in a tough year for the auto industry.”
Most of those sales were made up of the 2021 Forester model year, but a few were the refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester that arrived in December in the U.S. market.
