They didn’t reveal the identity of the new compact sports car and we said it would likely be the long-awaited 2014 Porsche Cayman. Porsche unveiled the new Cayman in LA and has released details and its even better than we thought. An international audience viewed the third generation Cayman that has been totally re-engineered from the ground up.
2014 Porsche Cayman coming in two versions
Porsche tells us that the new Caymen is lower, longer, lighter and faster, more efficient and more powerful than the previous generation model. The new 2014 Cayman will be featured in two versions, the Cayman and Cayman S. With a new longer wheelbase and longer track, the new compact two-door sports car will offer an enhanced driving experience. The new mid-engine sports car will feature two engines that Porsche says will deliver more power and better fuel efficiency.
Two flat-six cylinder engines will power the new Cayman and Cayman S, and will be mounted in front of the rear axle for a mid-engine design. The third generation Cayman will be motivated by a 2.7-liter engine with 275 hp and when equipped with the Sport Chrono package, it accelerates from 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds.
The 3.4-liter engine will be featured in the Cayman S and produces 325 hp. When equipped with the Sport Chrono package, the S sprints from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The new Cayman and Cayman S will certainly deliver a new level of performance. Both the Cayman and Cayman S will feature the engines mounted just in front of the rear axle and will be surrounded by its lightweight aluminum and steel body.
