The Subaru WRX STI has a rich racing history in Canada and has been extremely successful in Rally racing. Canadians will get to see the 2015 Subaru WRX STI for the first time as it makes its Canadian debut in Toronto on February 14. It will make its premiere at the Canadian International Auto Show 2014 at the Metro Toronto Convention Center. Subaru has deep roots in Rally Racing and the 2015 WRX STI will be prominently displayed along with its Rally racing history.
The all-new 2015 Subaru WRX and 2015 WRX STI will be on display next to some racing legends. Also on display are Patrick Richard’s WRX STI rally car and the first Canadian Legacy rally car. Patrick Richard, driver for Subaru Rally Team Canada, is a 7 Time National Champion, has 5 North American Titles and is the reigning Canadian Rally Champion.
The 2015 WRX STI has been developed because of its Rally racing history, and the Canadian Rally Championship (CRC) is a big reason for what the performance car is today. CRC is Canada's top tier performance rally series, consisting of several events spread out across the country. It’s a highly competitive series and the Subaru WRX STI driven by Patrick Richard will be on hand at the CIAS and on display next to the new-generation 2015 WRX STI for fans to see.
Competitors competing in the CRC have gone on to successfully compete internationally, including winning 3 of the last 7 championships in the top tier American national level championship. Competitors from the CRC have won the North American Rally Championship, consisting of events from Canada and the United States, 7 out of the last 9 years.
Subaru and the WRX STI has a successful history in Canada going back to 2002 when Richard was the Canadian National Champion. His first Rally was in the summer of of 1999. Subaru saw Richard’s potential and was picked up by Subaru Rally Team Canada 6 months after his first rally race.
The 2015 Subaru WRX STI is rally-bred and Canadians will see the new features for the first time next week at the show. Subaru Technica International (STI) took what they learned from the Canadian Rally Cars, that need to navigate some of the most extreme terrain, and transferred that knowledge to this new-generation performance sedan.
STI improved the new Subaru performance car with a stiffer chassis, firmer springs and faster steering. These three things combine for an STI that be pushed harder in the corners without losing traction. This is important because many STI buyers will take their performance WRX STI to the track and race against the competition.
The all-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI will make its Canadian premiere February 14 alongside its deep Rally roots. This new-generation model is a direct result of what happened on Canada's top tier performance rally series.
