2024 Subaru Ascent upgrades

The 2024 Ascent now comes with Subaru's latest EyeSight safety technology, including a Wide-Angle Mono Camera. The improvements are a result of a wider field of view, updated control software, and the addition of an electric brake booster.

Standard features

All 2023 Ascent trim levels come with Symmetrical all-wheel-drive, 8.7 inches of ground clearance, a 260 horsepower 2.4-liter turbocharged engine mated to a Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission, X-Mode, and a dual-function X-Mode on some trim levels for active families.

Additional standard features include steering responsive LED headlights with high beam assist, rear seat reminder, front tri-zone and rear automatic climate control, automatic power door locks, power windows and power side mirrors, and a security system with engine immobilizer.

Other standard features inside include a rear vision camera, USB-A and USB-C input/charge ports in the front center console, USB-A and USB-C charge ports in the rear center console, raised roof rails, 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels in silver finish and 19 cupholders.

All Ascent trims have a 5,000-lb. towing capacity with standard trailer stability assist that helps to maintain vehicle stability while towing. The TSA system utilizes yaw sensors to monitor trailer sway and can brake individual wheels to stabilize the vehicle and trailer.

The Subaru Starlink 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system is standard across the model line. The multimedia system also includes wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, AM/FM/HD Radio, Bluetooth hands-free phone, text, audio streaming connectivity, and SiriusXM and SiriusXM Travel Link (4-month free Platinum subscription).

Dual function X-Mode

The 2024 Ascent Onyx Edition, Limited, and Touring have standard dual-function X-Mode with Hill Descent Control. Dual-function X-Mode functions include Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings to optimize all-wheel-drive performance for enhanced all-weather and trail capability.

Available Ascent upgrades

An available Surround View Monitor offers a 360-degree overhead view of the vehicle for enhanced situational awareness while parking. The system uses images from four vehicle cameras and combines them to create a single image for a bird's-eye view of the area around the entire vehicle.

Cabin Connect is available on trim levels equipped with the Harman Kardon QuantumLogic surround sound speaker system. The convenience feature amplifies the driver's voice to the third-row occupants for improved communication inside the vehicle.

What's missing?

Former President and CEO of Subaru of America, Tom Doll, hinted at the Subaru dealer meeting this year that Subaru of America might launch more Wilderness trim levels soon. Doll said Subaru's present lineup is particularly tailored for U.S. consumer tastes, citing the 3-row Subaru Ascent and top-of-the-line Wilderness trim and equipment packages for the Subaru Outback and Subaru Forester.

According to Wards Auto, Doll says additional Wilderness packages may be in the works, "possibly hinting at a new Ascent SUV Wilderness edition."

The Ascent Wilderness would make sense for Subaru of America's active customers. Subaru could wait until the Ascent gets a complete remodel for the 2025 model year to offer the Ascent Wilderness trim. Stay tuned.

The 2024 Ascent gets a modest price increase and comes in six trim levels, Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Onyx Edition Limited, Limited, and Touring. The new 2024 Subaru Ascent arrives in Subaru showrooms this Fall. The Ascent Wilderness is not in the 2024 Ascent lineup.

Stay tuned to Subaru Report here, and we will bring the new 2024 Ascent online configurator as soon as it's available from Subaru of America. So you can choose a trim level, options, features, colors, and option packages and see how much the 3-Row you want will cost.

I note that the surround view monitor is available as an upgrade. Currently, the surround view monitor, as well as the cabin connect, are only available with the technology package. Does this mean that the surround view monitor and cabin connect are available as separate options? This would be good news since you can only get those now as part of the technology package, which is over $3500.
