Subaru doesn't have the luxury of launching a lackluster all-electric SUV as other automakers offer. According to Subaru President and CEO Tom Doll, the automaker is launching a new all-electric SUV, and it's less than two years away. In 2022, Subaru Corporation will bring its first-ever electrified SUV developed with Toyota, and it needs to have the same core values that make Subaru successful, or it will fail.
In an interview in April with Cheddar, Tom Doll said, "We will be introducing an (all-electric) SUV in a couple of years through our partnership with Toyota. I can't speak too much about the details, but needless to say, it's going to be a great electric vehicle for us and will be our first fully-electric vehicle."
Abe says the new all-electric model will be about the same size as a 2021 Subaru Forester, and it will launch in the U.S. and developed as a global vehicle. He also revealed it could offer a front-wheel-drive model with one motor and an all-wheel-drive variant with two motors. He says the all-new EV will be distinctively a Subaru.
The new 2022 Subaru SUV could be called "Evoltis" and needs to incorporate five things for the new all-electric SUV to be a home run for the Japanese automaker. To be distinctly Subaru, the new EV SUV must be all-wheel-drive, but the vehicle also needs to be off-pavement ready. To be distinct, Subaru goes beyond having all-wheel-drive cars for customers.
Being "distinctly Subaru" means having the ability to get away from civilization with additional features beyond all-wheel-drive. Including having extra ground clearance, dual-function X-Mode with deep snow and mud settings, having a low center of gravity for improved performance while navigating steep trails, and a rugged exterior appearance like the vehicle from Fisker pictured above.
Subaru doesn't have the luxury of launching an uninspiring all-electric SUV. It must be gripping and distinctly Subaru. Subaru has the formula for success, and they need to stick with its core value of multi-purpose, fun-to-drive, and a rugged “go-anywhere” attitude for the 2022 Subaru all-electric SUV to be a home run.

Yes, Subaru has to work hard
Yes, Subaru has to work hard and be really creative. Every electric vehicle inherently possesses low center of gravity (low slung battery pack). All wheel drive is achievable by two, front and rear electric motors. No driveshaft, just electric wires. Four electric motors, one per wheel, could enhance maneuverability and torque vectoring, lower further the gravity center, and could even out-perform differential locks when facing tough terrain. Undercarriage camera that lets the driver monitor hidden rocks that could hit the cars underpinning, plus auto-braking (or without) is also a nice feature.

All sounds good. No need for another mommy van . It would be nice if a midsized ev SUV had a driver's side window that was more like a coupe. I'm only 6' 1 but even the larger SUVs leave the driver staring at the B pillar when looking to the left, and having to swing your legs and feet out akwardly to exit around the B pillar. Enlarge the door. All electric sounds good. Hybrids sound like an expensive mechanical electrical nightmare when things go wrong.

I am a lover of Subaru's and
I am a lover of Subaru's and electrics also..........I would be first in line for an electric Subie...........I do hope Subie does not even consider 2wd..........I do not any longer consider 2wd and Subie's Forte is being known as go everywhere vehicles...........Here is a point Subie maybe has not considered.........With powerful electrodynamic braking..."Is possible".....Subie could eliminate the rear brakes and roters, lowering unsprung weight and also saving a few bucks........Paul
