AMG has done it again and Mercedes introduces the stunning 2015 S65 AMG Coupe. It is AMG’s new V12 top-of-the-range model in the S-Class Coupe series and it’s a beauty. It comes with a number of things that make it very special, but its what’s under the hood and chassis that gets us excited about this new two-door performance car from Mercedes-AMG.
AMG 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine
Here’s 5 performance features that set it apart. It has to start under the hood of this top of the line luxury car with the AMG 6.0- liter V12 biturbo engine. It pumps out 621 hp and and incredible neck-snapping 738 lb-ft of torque. If this doesn’t get your heart pumping, nothing will. The V12 S65 AMG Coupe accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds and has a top speed of 186 mph (electronically limited).
Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH says, "There are AMG fans for whom our V12 biturbo engine is the measure of all things. For this clientele we have developed a unique car in the form of the new S65 AMG Coupe. From driving dynamics to comfort and equipment, our new twelve-cylinder coupe surpasses even the highest of expectations."
Technical highlights of the AMG 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine include, biturbocharging, an aluminum crankcase, forged crankshaft in high-grade alloy steel, multi-spark ignition with 12 twin-spark ignition units, air-to-water intercooler with low-temperature circuit, alternator management and ECO start/stop function.
Power transmission with three individual driving modes
Coupled to the 621 hp V12 powerplant is the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox that transmits power to the rear wheels. It comes with three modes for the driver to chose from: Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S) and Manual (M). Mercedes says Sport and Manual “emphasize the vehicle's dynamic pedigree.”
AMG sports suspension with curve tilting function
The 2015 Mercedes S65 AMG Coupe comes equipped with the AMG sports suspension that allows the performance Coupe to lean into bends in a manner similar to a motorcyclist or skier. Mercedes says it’s like the driver and passengers feel like they are driving on a banked curve. In tight corners, the curve tilting function heightens the driving experience. The curve tilting function can be selected as one of three drive modes using the ABC switch, and it is active in the speed range from 10 to 111 mph.This feature is making its U.S. debut in the 2015 S65 AMG Coupe.
Speed-sensitive sports steering
The performance suspension is complimented by the S65 AMG Coupe’s electromechanical speed-sensitive sports steering with variable steering ratio. It compliments it by optimizing vehicle handling and agility while maintaining driving safety at high speeds. It provides more steering assistance in "Sport" mode and the driver feels a stiffer and more commanding level of steering assistance.
Optional ceramic high-performance compound brake system
Here’s a must-have option for performance enthusiasts. The optional AMG high-performance compound brake system features brake calipers with a grey finish. Red calipers are also available, and a ceramic high-performance compound brake system is optional. Mercedes says this design is more than 20 percent lighter than its conventional counterpart, and ensures lower unsprung masses as well as enhanced driving dynamics, agility, ride comfort, and brake performance.
There are many more features on the stunning new 2015 Mercedes V12 S65 AMG Coupe, but these five performance features set it apart from the crowd. The S-Class Coupe stole the show in Geneva when it was introduced. After the sedan and roadster, the new S65 AMG Coupe is the third AMG high-performance car with a V12 engine to come to the United States market.
