What are the best used Subaru models? More SUV shoppers are considering the Subaru Forester and Outback vehicles rather than many other used models. Consumer Reports (by subscription) says the Forester and Outback are at the top of their ten most popular used models list for many reasons.
They are the vehicles that are the most searched by people coming to their website looking for a used car, SUV, or truck. In addition, they are the top models recommended by Consumer Reports because they've scored well in their road tests, have good reliability, and have standard safety features that earn them high crash scores.
They are all three-year-old models and are attractive because most leases end after three years. In addition, CR says many of these vehicles have low miles. Finally, because the lessee had to keep the car in good condition, the vehicles are likely to have been appropriately maintained and have interiors that were treated well.
The top ten used vehicles are all from the 2020 model year and listed in order starting with the most-researched model. The ten include the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Highlander, Subaru Forester, Subaru Outback, Mazda CX-5, Ford Escape, Toyota Camry, Ford F-150, and Honda Accord.

"This popular small SUV delivers a combination of a roomy interior, excellent visibility, commendable fuel economy, simple controls, comfortable ride, and responsive handling. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, combined with the CVT, yielded 28 mpg overall, among the best in class at the time."
"But acceleration isn't exhilarating, and the engine's noise isn't the most pleasant. The cabin is roomy, with a remarkably generous rear seat and easy access. The controls are simple to use, including the infotainment system. "

CR says the price range is $22,125 - $28,725, depending on condition and trim level. The owner reported fuel mileage is 28 mpg.

"The Outback wagon has a long-running reputation as a smart alternative to an SUV, and the redesigned 2020 model doesn't stray from its proven formula. This next-generation Outback adds comfort and convenience features. The base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine does the job but can feel strained under stress."
"The 260-hp, 2.4-liter turbo engine transforms the wagon thanks to its effortless acceleration. As a result, the ride is very comfortable, and the handling is responsive and secure. However, some tasks through the large infotainment screen require more than one step."

CR says the price range is $24,400 - $31,250, depending on condition and trim level. The owner reported fuel mileage is 26 mpg.

The 2020 Subaru Forester and 2020 Outback are among Consumer Reports' ten most popular three-year-old used models on its website. This is because they are the most researched by SUV shoppers looking for information on the best used models with CR's highest overall scores.
