EPA Leaks 2025 Subaru Forester MPG - 2 Trim Levels Get Worse And Where’s The Hybrid?

The EPA just leaked the next-generation 2025 Subaru Forester Fuel mileage. Two trim levels get worse fuel mileage than the outgoing model.

The 2025 Subaru Forester is about to make its dealer launch in the U.S. this spring. The EPA leaked the all-new remodeled Forester compact SUV's fuel mileage with interesting numbers.

Subaru says the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine powers new Forester trim levels. According to the latest information from the EPA, not all trims get the same fuel mileage. The 2025 Forester's 2.5-liter engine produces 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque.

When it arrives in U.S. showrooms this spring, the 2025 Forester will be available in five trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring.

Some Trims Get The Same Fuel Mileage

The 2025 Forester Base, Premium, and Limited trim levels get an EPA-estimated 26/33 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg, the same as the 2024 model year Forester.

Sport And Touring Trims

However, the 2025 Forester Sport and Touring trim levels now get 25/32 city/highway mpg and 28 combined mpg, one mile per gallon lower than the outgoing model.

Why did the Sport and Touring trim levels get worse fuel mileage? That's the question that still needs to be answered. The remodeled Forester is supposed to be more aerodynamic, but the two trims may be heavier with their added technology features.

What about the 2025 Forester Wilderness?

The 2025 Forester Wilderness is a carryover model with no changes and is identical to the 2024 outdoor-themed model year. The next-generation Forester Wilderness will arrive sometime next year.

The Forester Wilderness fuel mileage remains unchanged at 25/28 city/highway mpg and 26 combined mpg.

The All-New Forester Hybrid Is Coming

Subaru has confirmed that a next-generation Forester Hybrid trim level will be coming for North American customers in the spring of 2025.

We don't know if the Forester Hybrid will be a conventional or a Plug-In Hybrid. Subaru has yet to release information on the new Forester Hybrid. Stay tuned.

What is the price of the 2025 Subaru Forester?

Subaru of America has yet to release pricing on the all-new sixth-generation Forester, but it will surely get a significant price increase.

I estimate the new 2025 Forester will cost between $28,000 and $39,000 when it hits retailers' showrooms this spring. The top trim Forester Touring will likely cost $40,000 with all the new upgrades. Stay tuned for the Forester pricing to be announced soon.

Why are the Sport and Touring trim levels rated at 1 MPG lower? Because they both have 19-inch alloys wheels (Subaru said this is a first for the Forester), and larger wheels means there is more unsprung weight on the vehicle. The Ascent with 20-inch alloys wheels are rated at 1 MPG lower than the ones with 18-inch alloys.
