South Africa won’t be left out from getting a new 2016 BMW 3 Series sedan that is launching around the globe. The new sixth generation 3 Series launches in South Africa with four gasoline engines and two diesel models. They can be mated with a six-speed manual gearbox and an eight-speed Steptronic transmission (standard on the BMW 330d and BMW 340i Sedan).
Like Japan, South Africa will also be getting a new special 40 Year Edition BMW 3 Series that will get a number of unique treatments to set it apart from the standard model. Only 400 examples will be shipped to the country and all will get the M Sport package and will be available with three special exterior paint finishes, Tanzanite Blue, Citrine Black and Mineral White Metallic. They will also get 19-inch BMW V-spoke light alloy wheels from BMW Individual.
Inside, the 40 Year Edition models receive an upgraded cabin with new materials and additional chrome highlights for the controls, air vents and central control panel. Each example also comes with LED-headlights, Harman Kardon premium sound and Head-Up Display.
This limited edition BMW 340i is powered by am all-new 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline six gasoline engine that has 326 PS and 450 Nm (331 lb-ft) of torque. It comes mated an eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels.
Around one in every four BMWs sold is a BMW 3 Series Sedan and it continues to be the car that defines the brand and it’s the most successful BMW of all-time. The 3 Series is an icon for the German automaker and remains to this day the quintessential BMW. The South African 2016 BMW 340i 40 Year Edition model pricing will be announced closer to launch date.
