The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is among the top-rated subcompact SUVs tested by Consumer Reports (by subscription). Crosstrek scores number two overall with 84 points outscoring the Toyota Corolla Cross (77), Honda HR-V (73), Kia Seltos (70), Chevrolet Trailblazer (70), Mazda CX-30 (64), and Hyundai Kona (59). But which Crosstrek trim should you buy?
We compare the 2024 Crosstrek Sport versus the 2023 Crosstrek Premium trim. The Sport trim is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine upgrade that's more powerful than the Premium trim 2.0-liter engine with 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. Both are fuel efficient. (See fuel mileage specs below).
The 2024 Crosstrek Sport trims 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine produces 182 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque coupled with a Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission.
What is the 2024 Premium with the 2.0-liter Boxer engine's trim fuel mileage? The 2024 Crosstrek Premium trim with the 2.0-liter engine gets an EPA-estimated 27/34 mpg and 29 combined mpg with the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) automatic.
What is the new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Sport with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine's trim fuel mileage? The remodeled 2024 Subaru Crosstrek 2.5-liter gets an EPA-estimated 26/33 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg.
What is the 2024 Crosstrek pricing?
The 2024 Crosstrek Premium has a starting price of $27,440, and the 2024 Crosstrek Sport trim is priced at $30,290, including destination and delivery fees ($1,225).
2024 Crosstrek Premium
The Crosstrek Premium has Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel drive, X-Mode with Hill Descent Control and 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, and 8.7-inch ground clearance.
The Premium trim also features a push-button start, an 11.6-inch multimedia touchscreen, LED foglights, raised ladder-type roof rails, and standard EyeSight driver assist safety technology.
2023 Crosstrek Sport
The 2023 Crosstrek Sport trim has the Premium features above but offers a more rugged appearance with wider wheel arch moldings, 18-inch alloy wheels with a dark gray finish, and gloss black finish on the front grille, side mirrors, and roof spoiler.
Also, yellow contrast stitching and simulated carbon fiber interior trim are added throughout the cabin. Yellow metallic finish trim rings surround the odometer and tachometer on the combination meter.
The Sport comes standard with a wireless phone charger in the center console, an all-weather package (heated front seats, windshield, and exterior mirrors), and a leather steering wheel and shift lever.
Sports trims also add dual-function X-Mode with Hill Descent Control. The X-Mode system includes driver-selectable Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings to optimize all-wheel drive performance for severe weather and road conditions.
We would pick the Crosstrek Sport over the Limited trim.
The Sport trim adds two significant upgrades that the Premium trim does not offer. The 2024 Crosstrek Sport has a 2.5-liter engine with 30 additional horsepower and added suspension upgrades with dual-function X-Mode.
The Crosstrek Premium trim level is equipped with standard X-Mode with hill descent control, which is excellent for most weather and road conditions. Customers with active lifestyles can dial up Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings to go off-road and get further off the grid with the 2024 Crosstrek Sport.
In the past few years, REI has seen more people turn to their vehicles as a preferred way to get off the grid using their car, visit new places, and try multi-sport adventures in new outdoor destinations.
Melissa Paul, REI senior merchandising manager for REI, says, "This camper is a bit more spontaneous, is interested in being more self-sustained, and goes out a bit further off the grid to camp."
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Sport wins over the 2024 Crosstrek Premium trim. With the 2.5-liter engine upgrade and dual-function X-Mode, the Sport trim level will get you further away from the crowd if you are camping and want to get off the grid using the all-wheel-drive Crosstrek.
