The Hot Subaru Crosstrek Makes A Bold Statement

When I thought I'd seen everything, the Subaru Crosstrek sets another best-ever record. How far can the Crosstrek go? The sky is the limit.

Subaru had no idea.

When Subaru introduced the Crosstrek XV in 2012, they could not have foreseen the remarkable success of their new small crossover hatch. Now, at just twelve years old, it continues to exceed all expectations.

The hot Crosstrek makes a statement.

Three Subaru vehicles, the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV, the 2025 Subaru Outback midsize SUV, and the 2025 Subaru Forester compact SUV, lead the way for Subaru of America (SOA). But the Crosstrek is the standout model for the Camden, N.J. automaker. The Crosstrek small SUV is on fire.

The Crosstrek received a complete remodel for the 2024 model year, and its upgrades are significant. I won't go into all the improvements, but you can read my report here for more information.

The best-ever for Crosstrek

SOA reports that In August, the all-new next-generation Crosstrek achieved its best sales month of all time, with 20,396 vehicles sold (surpassing the record of 16,092 set in September 2022), a 47 percent increase compared to August 2023.

The hot Crosstrek now moves to the number two spot in SOA's lineup with 115,214 for the year, just 1,773 model sales behind the Forester with 116,987 sales in 2024. The Crosstrek could be SOA's top seller again, as it did in 2022

Troy Poston, the new Senior Vice President of Sales at Subaru of America, says, "Crosstrek, in particular, achieved its best sales month ever, becoming the right match for a steadily growing number of Subaru owners."

The Crosstrek's broad appeal is a testament to its versatility. It's a hit with younger buyers and empty nesters who appreciate its subcompact SUV design. Whether you're a first-time Subaru owner or a returning customer, the Crosstrek has something for everyone. Read more about it in my report here

Jeff Walters, President and Chief Operating Officer of Subaru of America, says, "Subaru, a trusted partner in the vehicle journey, remains an important part of keeping our customers satisfied, whether it is for someone purchasing their first Subaru or returning for their next."

Two Crosstrek changes made a significant difference.

Crosstrek sales have been catapulted upward with the addition of the all-new Crosstrek Wilderness trim level. It also helps to have the Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and Wilderness with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine, now manufactured in the U.S. Factory in Lafayette, Indiana.

Customers can get the trim level and features they want without waiting months to get the model delivered from Japan. Subaru of Indiana Automotive began production of the Crosstrek in May 2023.

Subaru of Indiana Automotive strategically moved to accommodate the next-generation Crosstrek at the U.S. plant. They shifted production from the Impreza compact car to Japan, creating space for the Crosstrek. This decision has proven to be a smart one by Subaru executives.

How does the Crosstrek stack up against other small SUVs in the same price range?

The Crosstrek is named the top pick by Consumer Reports.

The Crosstrek is named the best small SUV this year for under $30,000. In an updated report by CR (by subscription), they have the Crosstrek listed as the number one overall subcompact and compact SUV.

The best SUVs under $30,000 are all recommended by CR, and I've listed them in order of the best to least overall score.

  1. Subaru Crosstrek - 87
  2. Hyundai Tucson - 82
  3. Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid - 79
  4. Honda HR-V - 74
  5. Kia Sportage - 74
  6. Chevrolet Equinox - 71
  7. Nissan Rogue - 70
  8. Toyota Corolla Cross - 69
  9. Kia Seltos - 68
  10. Mazda CX- 30

What does Consumer Reports say about the new Crosstrek subcompact SUV?

"The Subaru Crosstrek got an evolutionary redesign for 2024. It's still essentially a raised Impreza hatchback with a very comfortable ride and standard AWD. Acceleration from the standard 2.0-liter engine is leisurely, and we got 29 mpg overall in our tests."

"The optional 2.5-liter has more power and better acceleration. When full power is needed, engine noise is pronounced, but the sound isn't a deal breaker. Responsive handling, user-friendly controls, and a practical interior round out the package."

"Paddle shifters by the steering wheel allow convenient engine braking in mountainous environments. The newly optional driver power seat with adjustable lumbar support is a major upgrade. BSW and RCTW are unavailable on the base trim, but adding them as part of an options package on the Premium trim keeps the price under $30,000."

Here are the trim levels and pricing for those looking to buy the new Crosstrek.

The Crosstrek is available in Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Wilderness trim levels.

  • The Base model starts at $26,540
  • Premium $28,085
  • Sport $30,935
  • Limited $32,440
  • Wilderness $33,540

Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,345).

The remodeled 2024 Subaru Crosstrek has been a resounding success and may not have seen its ceiling. The sky is the limit.

Excited to see if Subaru adds/changes exterior colors for 2025 or adds a heated steering wheel (long shot)
