The Last 2025 Subaru Legacy Is Here But Not For Long

The 2025 Subaru Legacy, once a unique and valuable addition to the Subaru lineup, has arrived. As the last of its kind, it's a limited-time opportunity to experience its exceptional features. Discover what sets it apart before it's gone.

Not for long.

The Subaru Legacy, a long-standing favorite in the U.S., is reaching its final chapter. The 2025 Subaru Legacy is here, but only for a short while. Once the last 2025 Legacy midsize sedan leaves the assembly line later this year or early next year, it's a part of history.

Did you know?

Subaru of America says, "The Subaru Legacy was designed for the American market, and on its debut in 1989, it became the first Subaru manufactured in the United States at Subaru's new Indiana plant, Subaru of Indiana Automotive."

Subaru of America (SOA) has a new online configurator for the last model year, allowing customers to see which trim is best for them. Check out the latest details and my 2025 model guide here.

SOA put a newly upgraded 2025 Legacy configurator tool online. The tool allows users to check the different trim levels with standard features, color selection, and images of the few 2025 model changes.

Curious about the 2025 Legacy's unique features?

For the 2025 model year, it's a carry-over model with few changes except for some minor equipment adjustments on the Legacy Limited trim. Here are the pricing details and model highlights.

What is the price of the 2025 Subaru Legacy?

Here's the good news-the 2025 Legacy sedan remains affordable, with little price increase on the 2025 models. With five trim levels to choose from, including the base at $26,040, Premium at $28,340, Limited at $35,150, Sport at $35,640, and Touring XT at $39,340, it's a cost-effective choice for all. The price includes destination and delivery fees ($1,145).

How much did the 2025 Legacy price increase?

The Legacy Limited increased by +$2,115. A power moonroof, DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System, navigation, and a 360-degree heated steering wheel are now standard on Limited trims.

Why should you buy a Legacy?

First, all Legacy trim levels come standard with Subaru's excellent Symmetrical all-wheel-drive for all-weather performance. The Legacy also gets the highest safety scores from the IIHS.

Which Legacy trim is the best value?

The 2025 Subaru Legacy Premium and Limited trim levels are where many buyers will land and offer the best value with minor price increases. Unless you need the Sport and Touring XT's 2.4-liter turbocharged engine's extra power, you will pay about $7,000-$11,000 less for a comparably equipped 2.5i trim level.

What is the 2025 Subaru Legacy's fuel mileage?

The EPA says the Sport and Touring XT trims return an estimated 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 26 combined mpg. The standard naturally aspirated 2.5-liter flat-4 engine gets an EPA-estimated 27/35 mpg city/highway and 30 combined mpg.

Legacy is quiet.

Consumers who buy a midsize sedan are looking for a comfortable, quiet cabin, and you don't have to buy a luxury car. So, which automaker makes the quietest new sedans? A recent study from Consumer Reports (by subscription) identifies the six quietest mainstream sedans you can buy today.

The 2024 Subaru Legacy now scores the fourth-highest in its class, joining the Subaru Ascent 3-Row SUV, which is also best at keeping noise out. Check my report here for more details.

If the Legacy is so good, why did Subaru discontinue it?

Subaru of America says, "Discontinuation (of the Legacy) reflects market shifts from passenger cars to SUVs and crossovers and Subaru's transition to electrified and fully electric vehicles." Read my report here

Move over Legacy

Subaru Corporation dropped the Legacy sedan because the automaker needed to make room to build its hottest model, the Forester Compact SUV, in its best market, the U.S., where they have 75 percent of its global sales.

The Legacy discontinuation will make room on the Lafayette, Indiana, assembly line for the Forester coming to Subaru of Indiana Automotive. I was the first to report that Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) will begin building the next-gen Forester compact SUV in Indiana.

Get it while it lasts.

The 2025 Subaru Legacy, with its all-weather performance, excellent fuel mileage, and the highest safety scores, continues to offer the best value for sedan enthusiasts.

We are very sad to see the Legacy retired. We have owned one for 7 years and are planning on buying another...possibly a 2025 now as this is the last version. We really wish it was to stay. We also own an Outback as well the past 9 years. Please reconsider Subaru! Blessings the Schmidt's, Denise and Paul
