The all-new next-generation 2022 Subaru WRX STI is still a year away, but fans in the U.S. should look for a 2021 Subaru WRX STI Final Edition sometime this year. Subaru Australia announced it would get the limited production STI and Subaru of America is likely working on its model for performance fans in North America.
The 2021 WRX STI is at U.S. retailers now, and one more model is coming before the next-generation model arrives sometime next year. The 2021 models are the last year of production with the 2.5-liter turbocharged EJ25 Subaru Boxer engine under the hood. The STI Final Edition will be the last production performance-tuned sports car with the iconic engine.

The next-generation STI will be powered by an all-new 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer with internal upgrades over the same engine that powers the Ascent, Outback, Legacy, and BRZ. You can read the Torque News report on the new 2.4-liter STI engine here.
Australia is getting just 30 Final Edition models, and reports say 75 unique STI models will be available for other global customers. Subaru Corporation sells over 66 percent of its cars in the U.S., and SOA will ask for additional Final Edition performance STI’s for its customers. Look for a possible 250 Final Edition models for a nod to the EJ25 shipped to Subaru of America’s customers.
Like the Australian limited production sports car, the STI will have special badging outside, a unique plate under the hood, 19-inch forged gold alloy wheels, silver Brembo brake calipers with an STI logo, and black-out treatment for the WRX rear wing setting the sports car apart.
The interior will come with unique stitching on the Recaro bucket seats, a carbon-fiber instrument panel, a numbered plaque in the cabin, and a Final Edition logo. The Final Edition comes in WR Blue Pearl, Crystal White Pearl, and Crystal Black Silica exterior paint options.

The 2021 Subaru WRX STI is the last model to have the 2.5-liter turbocharged EJ25 Boxer engine. Look for the U.S. 2021 Subaru STI Final Edition later this year.

Is there any actual information about this happening? Japan & Australia have their final editions already, it would be a missed opportunity to not give the EJ a proper send off in North America as well. I’m waiting, fingers crossed.
