New 2025 And 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Details Surface

The 2025 Subaru Crosstrek has been announced, and I have new fuel efficiency details. Check out what happened to the Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and new Premium 2.5L trim. I also have information on the 2026 Crosstrek model year.

When will the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek arrive?

The 2025 Subaru Crosstrek pricing and upgrades have been announced, and it will be available for U.S. customers later this year, says Subaru of America. However, there are more new details on the 2025 model change.

Additionally, I have uncovered new information from the EPA that reveals Subaru made some changes to the 2.5-liter Boxer engine in the 2025 Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and now new Premium 2.5-liter trim levels.

The 2025 Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and Wilderness trim levels with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine are manufactured in Subaru's U.S. plant at Subaru of Indiana Automotive. That won't change. The Premium trim now comes with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine, but that did change. Read my report here for more details.

Subaru says, "The Crosstrek gives you a choice between two Subaru Boxer engines: a standard 2.0-liter or an available 2.5-liter direct-injection engine, which is re-tuned for 2024 to deliver 182 horsepower and even more torque for responsive, confident acceleration."

I've uncovered new 2025 Crosstrek details.

What changes is the fuel mileage estimates for the 2025 Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and new Premium 2.5L trims from the EPA. Previously, the 2024 Crosstrek 2.5-liter Sport and Limited achieved an EPA-estimated 26/33 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg.

2025 Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and Premium.

The new 2025 Crosstrek 2.5-liter Sport, Limited, and Premium trim levels achieve a recalibrated EPA-estimated 27/33 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg. It's not a significant increase, but the 2025 Crosstrek 2.5-liter gets a one mpg increase over the 2024 models.

2025 Crosstrek Base

The 2025 Crosstrek Base trim level with the 2.0-liter Boxer engine fuel mileage stays the same. It gets an EPA-estimated 27/34 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg.

2025 Crosstrek Wilderness

The 2025 Crosstrek Wilderness trim level with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine fuel mileage stays the same. It gets an EPA-estimated 25/29 city/highway mpg and 27 combined mpg. It is the same as the 2024 model year.

The Subaru Boxer 2.5-liter engine continues to evolve.

Subaru Corporation did not reveal what they've done to the Crosstrek's 2.5-liter naturally aspirated Boxer engine. Still, they've made some upgrades to improve it so the EPA can "recalibrate" the fuel mileage.

Debuted on the 2021 Crosstrek, the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine in the Sport and Limited trim levels produces 182 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2.5-liter engine's torque increased by two lb-ft from the 2021 models.

What other 2025 Crosstrek changes are coming?

In its second year after a complete remodel, the 2025 Crosstrek will receive a new Premium trim with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine and dual-function X-Mode. The Base, Sport, Limited, and Wilderness trims remain relatively unchanged except for price increases. Check my new report here.

Significant changes are on the horizon for the 2026 Crosstrek.

As I reported earlier, Subaru Corporation is designing an all-new Crosstrek Hybrid. This hybrid model is expected to significantly improve fuel efficiency and a longer driving range, making it an attractive option for eco-conscious car buyers. Now, it's been confirmed by Planet Subaru that it will arrive for the 2026 Crosstrek model change.

Planet Subaru says, "However, Subaru has announced that we will get a 2026 Crosstrek with a hybrid powertrain, which has not been offered since the 2023 model year. We assume it will get the same system that Subaru is installing as an option in the 2026 Forester. Subaru is very tight-lipped about its product plans, so we don't have much to go on yet, but we will update this page as announcements are made. Stay tuned."

Crosstrek won't be a plug-in hybrid

The all-new Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid will be coming soon after the next-gen Forester Hybrid. I have uncovered information that the Crosstrek is not a plug-in hybrid; it will have a standard hybrid powertrain similar to the Forester.

Subaru's new hybrid technology is a series-parallel hybrid system similar to the one used in the Toyota Prius. It will feature Subaru's horizontally opposed Boxer engine, which will serve as a generator and a drive unit. This innovative design is expected to enhance the vehicle's performance and fuel efficiency.

Subaru's new hybrid system will allow the new Crosstrek Hybrid to travel longer distances on a single tank of fuel, reducing the need for frequent refueling and making the subcompact SUV more convenient for long trips.

The redesigned Subaru hybrid system will be designed and manufactured later this year at its newly renovated factory in Japan's Kitamoto City. The factory previously made general-purpose engines for the Japanese automaker. My report here has more information

With the introduction of the all-new 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid, Subaru aims to significantly impact the hybrid small SUV market. The new model is expected to offer an extended range, improved fuel efficiency, and a more affordable price tag compared to its predecessor.

Along with Crosstrek's current success, these factors will make it an even more compelling choice for eco-conscious car buyers, potentially influencing market dynamics in the coming years.

Conclusion:

Customers who wait for the 2025 Crosstrek Sport and Limited and now Premium trim with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine will have improved fuel efficiency over the 2024 model year, and the new Crosstrek Hybrid will arrive in 2026.

I will have a new report on the 2025 Crosstrek's best value trim level and why customers may want to wait. Stay tuned.
