The New-Generation Subaru Crosstrek Is One Of Only 10 Models To Avoid A Sales Collapse

The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek is the third best selling model in the U.S. and it’s even hotter in Canada. Before the coronavirus pandemic hit the auto industry, Crosstrek was Subaru’s best selling model in the all-wheel-drive lineup. It’s better than the popular Forester compact or Outback wagon. A report from Driving.ca says it was only one of ten vehicles to avoid the sales collapse.

When most other vehicles went into the negative for the first quarter of the year, Crosstrek was still up 11 percent over the previous year. Before COVID-19, the subcompact SUV was up 57.2 percent and had its best February ever. Since hitting the market in 2012, Subaru Crosstrek sales have done nothing but grow in Canada. The subcompact SUV was set to have a record year, and it still could as things return to normal.

Why is Crosstrek the hottest model in Canada?

The second-generation Crosstrek arrived in 2018 and it was an even bigger hit with a younger generation of buyers than the outgoing model. Subaru designed the new Crosstrek with younger consumers in mind, and the subcompact SUV is attracting more buyers in the 25 to 29 age group than any of Subaru’s other all-wheel-drive vehicles.

Crosstrek was remodeled with sportier exterior styling, and inside its infotainment package includes the availability of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity even on the base trim level. Subaru designed the new-generation Crosstrek for younger buyers with active lifestyles.

Crosstrek comes with 8.7-inches of ground clearance, comes standard with Subaru’s Symmetrical all-wheel-drive, and now comes with the off-road feature called X-Mode. Its “go-anywhere" attitude is attracting young millennials who use the new crossover for activities like mountain biking, kayaking, camping, trail hiking, and surfing.

How will Subaru improve on a winning formula?

The only knock on the Crosstrek redesign was the 2.0-liter engine needed more power. Subaru Corporation listened and they are bringing a new 2021 Crosstrek Sport trim with a bigger and more powerful 2.5-liter engine later this year. The all-new second-generation 2020 Subaru Crosstrek is blowing up the Subaru lineup in Canada and the new 2021 Crosstrek Sport will be an even hotter pick for a younger generation.
